ART
SCHEME OF WORK
YEARS 1 & 2
During key stage 1 Pupils develop their creativity and
imagination by exploring the visual, tactile and sensory
qualities of materials and processes. They learn about
the role of art, craft and design in their environment.
They begin to understand colour, shape and space and
pattern and texture and they use them to represent
their ideas and feelings.
The Key Stage 1 Art curriculum is split into two areas:
1)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND UNDERSTANDING
Which includes exploring and developing ideas, investigating and
making pieces of art work, evaluating and developing work and
extending the knowledge and understanding of art
2)
BREADTH OF STUDY
Which includes exploring a range of starting points, working
individually and collaboratively with others, using a range of
materials and processes and investigating different types of art.
Within this scheme we have highlighted the main
objectives and activities we cover in order to ensure
that all the children have a varied and exciting art
curriculum.
Each child in Key Stage 1 carries out approximately one
hour of art a week.
