Course Overview:
Year 7
A) Signs, Symbols and Belief about God.
Looks at the ways in which religious believers make use of symbols to help
understand and practise their faith.
B) What does it mean to be a Muslim?
Explores the roles, lifestyles and beliefs of the Muslim society in the U.K.
C) Investigating the Life of Jesus
Explores a series of significant events in the Life of Jesus.
Year 8
A) Judaism
Explores the roles, lifestyles and beliefs of the Jewish religion.
B) Rites of Passage
Compares Christianity, Islam and Judaism.
C) Religion and Science
Explores the contrasts between religious beliefs and scientific developments.
Year 9
A)Christianity and the Bible
This gives students an insight into the teachings of the Bible.
B) Religion and Moral issues
C) Religion and Human Relationships
The aim of these units is to increase students understanding of how religion
is viewed and applied in everyday life.
Assessment information:
Pupils will complete one end of unit assessment every term that is marked
according to National Curriculum levels. Assessment will include a variety of
tasks with success criteria to guide students towards their expected
targets.
Year 7
A) Produce a balanced presentation about Belief in God.
B) What does it mean to be a Muslim in today’s society? Students produce
this as a TV/Radio Broadcast
C) Life of Jesus – Students produce a timeline of significant events in his
life.
Year 8
A) Students respond to the question ‘Who are the Jewish people’
B) This is focused on funeral rites of passage.
C) A creative project demonstrating students knowledge of this topic.
Year 9
A) Based on Christian’s views of the Bible in modern society.
B) Students produce a comparison between their own views on euthanasia
and Christian views.
C) This is a personal response to this module.
Homework Arrangements:
Homework will be given once a fortnight and should take between 30 minutes
and 1 hour to complete.
How work is marked:
Unit assessments will be marked using NC levels and given a grade as well as
a written target.

Encourage students to watch the news/topical programmes on
TV/read newspapers to keep up to date with current world religious
events.
