PART I - Listed on the front and back of this handout are some of the many government
sponsored programs of Franklin D Roosevelt’s New Deal. Using pages 694-707 and 721-727 in
your book, identify, define, and explain the purpose of each of the Alphabet Agencies created
by the New Deal. Make sure that you use complete sentences, and do not simply copy the
answers out of the book.
PART II – In 7-10 complete sentences, answer the following question in the space provided
on the back of this handout.
Of the New Deal programs listed, which do you consider the most important? Explain your choice.
As you begin to respond to this question, try to think about the following:
 The type of assistance offered by each program
 The “scope” or reach of the program
 The impact of each program on the American population
