Salamis is the largest island in the Saronic Gulf and adjacent shores of Attica.
Located in the northern part of the Saronic Gulf and is separated from the coast of Attica in the Strait of Pahi (northwest) and the Strait of Piraeus (east), these two channels bordering the Bay of Eleusis, which extends north of Salamis. In the Strait of Pahi the minimum width of the channel is 500 meters, while in the
Strait of Perama is 1200 meters. The coastline is 104 km while the area of the island reaches 95 square kilometers. Highest peak is Mavrovouni (365 meters).
Salamis has a population of 34160 inhabitants (1991) and belongs to Attica and
Piraeus Prefecture. The island has two municipalities: the Municipality of Salamis
(founded 1835) and the City Ambelakia (founded 1998). Salamis Church belongs to the Cathedral Megara and Salamis.
Swimming areas are offered Resti, Iliakti (Tourkolimano) Aianteio (Moulki), in addition, Kyriza, Maroudas, Pigeons, Columns, Satirli, Pyriakoni, Kanakiani. For entertainment there are in all areas of Salamis restaurants, ouzo bars, taverns, cafes and bars.
Transportation:
The traffic is dense. Every 15 minutes leaves boat (motorboat) or ferry from
Perama (Route 15 ') for stakes and vice versa. There is also the line Pickets -
Piraeus (40 '). The Ferry boat service is not interrupted at night. Line Ferry boat is still the Faneromeni New Peramos (per 30 'Journey 3'). The transportation to the island is by bus (BUS) for each village and plenty of taxis serving without interruption.
