Requirements for the Persuasive Speech

advertisement

The Persuasive Speech will be a 3-6 minute presentation on a debatable topic. You must select a side on the issue and make your entire presentation support that point of view. Do not show both sides of the argument unless it is to prove your point has the better/stronger case. Be sure to only include information that supports your thesis.

You will put together a Typed!

outline and a PowerPoint presentation that you will use along with the speech – not as an addition at the end of the speech. With that in mind, here are your requirements for the Persuasive Speech:

The speech must have at least three main points, and you will use at least three pieces of statistics, examples, facts, or details under each of those main points. Use the blank outline form saved in the K-Drive public folder to help you plan your speech – just fill in all of the spaces.

You should use an introduction technique we’ve discussed in class

(Anecdote, Personal

Reference, Reference to Audience, Reference to Subject, Quotation, Reference to the Occasion, or a Startling Statement.) Be sure to also introduce all 3 of your main points within your introduction as well.

The conclusion should also be a technique we’ve discussed

.

You must also submit at least 2 print or electronic sources you used to research your topic. These must be MLA formatted for submission.

You will put together a PowerPoint Presentation to go along with your speech.

It must have at least 6 slides.

There must be at least one form of animation (something must move) on each slide.

You must insert a piece of clipart, chart, or any type of graphic on at least 3 of the slides.

Each slide must be relevant to the speech.

It must also work with your speech as you go along. Please keep the info on each slide to a minimum – no need for complete sentences - so you are not tempted to just read your slide show to the audience. You should NOT read the screen as you present.

You will also not give the PowerPoint Presentation and then the speech or vice versa.

Your speech and your presentation should work together.

You must also hand in a copy of the PowerPoint Presentation with the outline. When you go to print it out, go to ‘File,’ ‘Print,’ and then select Handouts (instead of slides) on the pull-down screen on the Print window. Print out 6 slides to a page please.

HAND IN: Copies of your outline, your introduction, sources, and a handout of your

PowerPoint presentation BEFORE you begin your speech!!
