After considering your substantive and methodological needs for your proposed dissertation,
consult with your guidance committee chairperson about selecting an appropriate dissertation
director. Your committee chair may also serve as your dissertation director, although the two sets
of responsibilities may be separated and given to two individuals. Depending on your proposed
project, it may be appropriate to secure a different chairperson as well. After making these
