SCIENTIFIC METHOD CONCEPT MAP
Part 1: Definitions
Procedure
1. Using the concept map on the back of this paper, you will define the words in the BOXES.
That’s a total of 15 words.
2. Look up EACH word in several different sources: dictionary (book and/or online), science
book, etc. Study the meanings from each source.
3. Write your OWN definition using the information you learned. In other words, define the
word
in YOUR OWN WORDS, your own language as if you were to describe the word to a
friend or to a teacher or parent. You may choose to draw a picture, if that helps you.
4. Legibly write the definitions on a separate piece of paper.
5. This assignment is due at the beginning of the period TOMORROW.

Part 2: Game
Materials Needed Per Group: scissors, crayons, markers or colored pencils, index cards (25)
Procedure
1. Work groups of 2-4 students. The teacher may choose or rearrange groups as needed.
2. On 15 of the cards, write the words in the boxes from the concept map given to you. Include
the top box, “Scientific Method.” Write the words large enough to fill up the entire card.
3. Cut 8 cards in half. On these small cards, write the connecting words (other words between
boxes). It might be helpful to write these words in a different color.
4. Arrange all the cards in the concept map as shown on the handout.
5. STUDY the concept map and LEARN the various scientific processes. Practice mixing up
the cards and then putting them back in the correct order.
6. We will have a race and the team that gets the most correct the fastest wins a prize and/or
points!!
