Leopard tries to Outwit Jackal

One day Leopard was lying under a tree in the leafy jungle. Leopard was a greedy, selfish, conceited and scheming animal. He was also very jealous. He was jealous of Jackal for

Jackal had many friends. Not only that but he had lots of food.

Leopard had no friends for he was very mean. He didn’t have much food either. Leopard was tired of

Jackal having everything he wanted. Even Lion the king of the jungle like Jackal. Leopard decided to list all Jackals bad points but he couldn’t think of a thing.

Leopard wanted to take Jackals food but he knew he couldn’t steal it for

Jackal always looked after his food. He knew that even if had the fortune to steal it Jackal and his friends would soon find the culprit. Leopard knew he had to be sneaky so he devised a cunning plan.

Leopard put the first part of his plan into action. He was going to befriend

Jackal. Leopard decided that bringing

Jackal a gift would be the best way to appeal to being his friend. Leopard waited impatiently when a fawn strolled past. He saw his chance and pounced on the clueless fawn and killed him.

Leopard ran to Jackals house and gave him the fawn. Jackal did not understand why Leopard was giving him a gift. Leopard said because we never talk so here’s a mouth watering fawn to represent our friendship. Jackal was suspicious at first but after a while

Leopard persuaded him that he was sorry for everything he had done.

Weeks went by. Jackal and Leopard became best friends. Leopard decided that it was time to put the second part of his plan into action. He took out a small bottle of poison.

Jackal invited Leopard over for tea and yams that day. As they sat down and drank the tea Jackal told Leopard about a gift sent by his mother.

Leopard asked Jackal if he could see the gift.

Jackal went to get it and Leopard saw his chance. He poured the poison in

Jackals tea. When Jackal came back he showed Leopard the present from his mother. Leopard grinned as Jackal drank his tea. Later that evening when

Leopard left Jackal began to feel dizzy.

The next morning Leopard ran to

Jackal’s house. When he went in Jackal was lying on the floor. Faking sympathy

Leopard asked what was wrong.

“I may not make it” Jackal said weakly

“Please look after my things.”

Then Jackal closed his eyes and died.

For a couple of weeks Leopard lived in

Jackals house happily. Then one hot day Leopard was sitting outside smiling to himself. Unknown to him frog was in the bushes. “Getting rid of Jackal was the best thing I ever did” Leopard laughed. Frog leaped away to tell everyone what he just heard.

Later that day Leopard was going for a walk. When suddenly Lion pounced on him and killed him with a swipe of his claw. That night the other animals ate

Leopard over a fire in memory of

Jackal.

Don’t be greedy or selfish!!!
