The Wabash College Annual Fund
Thank you to the more than 3,000 alumni, parents, and friends who have made a gift to the Wabash Annual
Fund so far this fiscal year. As students are finishing up their final papers, studying for exams, and
preparing for summer internships, we are mindful that our fiscal year is also coming to an end. We are
working on having as many alumni as possible contribute to the Annual Fund during the current fiscal year
which ends on June 30, 2006.
You may recall that gifts to the Annual Fund have a direct impact on students through—
 Scholarships—The Annual Fund supports opportunities like President’s Scholarships, Honor
Scholarships, and several other merit- and need-based programs.
 Technology—Wabash maintains over 300 computers across campus dedicated for student use.
Gifts to the Annual Fund enable Wabash to provide students with the best technology available.
 Immersion Learning Trips—This year alone, nearly a quarter of all Wabash students will tour the
globe to gain an in-depth understanding of their classroom studies. Annual gifts enable Wabash
men to embark on immersion learning trips at little or no additional cost to the student.
 Facility Upkeep—The Wabash landscape has changed over the past few years with new and
renovated buildings. There is an ongoing need to keep these facilities looking their best for
Wabash men and gifts to the Annual Fund make this possible.
These are just a few of the many examples of how an Annual Fund contribution makes a difference for
Wabash students. If you have yet to make a gift to Wabash this year, then please consider making your gift
online today at https://www.wabash.edu/alumni/egift or by calling 877-743-4545. The 2005-2006 fiscal
year runs through June 30, 2006.
Lilly Endowment Inc. Matching Opportunity
Remember that during the 2005-2006 fiscal year, Lilly Endowment Inc. will match alumni gifts to the
Annual Fund on a $1.25 for $1.00 basis up to $2 million, for a total match of $2.5 million.
2006 Indiana License Plates
Alumni and friends with vehicles registered in the State of Indiana are eligible to participate in the Indiana
Wabash College license plate program with a gift to the Annual Fund. Visit
www.wabash.edu/alumni/plates for more information.
1832 Society
The annual 1832 Society Dinner was held on Sunday, April 23 in Indianapolis. The nearly 300 people in
attendance, there as part of the leadership giving club, honored Anne and Andy Ford for their 13 years of
leadership at Wabash. Read the full story at

IMENTOR – Alumni Ready to Help Entrepreneurs
Starting a business in Indiana? Want some advice from a Wabash man with experience in a particular area
of business – sales, marketing, human resources, finance, technology, law, or other areas important for your
start-up? IMENTOR (Indiana Mentors) is a new network of Wabash men designed to provide that
assistance. Call Lu Hamilton (765) 361-6168 or hamiltol@wabash.edu for that IMENTOR connection.
IMENTOR is one of the programs sponsored by the Lilly Endowment Initiative to Promote Opportunity
through Educational Collaborations, designed to help Wabash promote Indiana as a great place to start a
new business or career.
IMENTOR Initiative details can be found in the “I Need Help With” page on the website
(http://www.wabash.edu/alumni/help - linked from the Alumni & Parents page). From this page you can
also get details on things like finding a specific alumnus, finding an alumni group, volunteering for
Wabash, and many others.

Wabash in the New York Times
The New York Times published an article titled The Final Four on the U.S.’s remaining all-male
institutions in the quarterly education supplement of its Sunday, April 23 edition. You can read the full
story at

The Final Four in Indy
March Madness 1920’s style
Life in Indiana in March inevitably involves a bit of hoops hysteria. But when the national championships
are held in Indy, there is even more fanfare and hoopla. This last week while working on the Historic
Images project, I saw this great picture of the “Winners of the National Tournament ‘22”. I had seen other
items connected with this team, but this image caught my eye.
So I decided to investigate a little and see what there was to know about this team. It turns out that there is
quite a lot to know about this team and their championship. This group played in the final four of the first
ever intercollegiate championship in Indianapolis and won! All the games were played during the week of
March 7, 1922. The final four were brought to Indianapolis where they played in the 1 st Annual National
Intercollegiate Basketball Championship. Wabash was there as the champions of the Midwest region and
won the whole show by a score of 43 to 23 over Kalamazoo. One last note about the picture – the last man
standing on the right is Maurice “Shang” Chadwick in the gymnasium that now carries his name –
Chadwick Court.

More on the College Archives
Hugh Vandivier, Class Agent for the Class of 1991, has had the opportunity to spend much time in the
College Archives over the past six months or so. During one particular conversation with Archivist Beth
Swift, she mentioned that the archives were missing the bound copies of the Bachelor from some of the
years he was in school. The Archives routinely collects 2 copies of each edition of the Bachelor and binds
them all together. She specifically noted missing issues from the Fall 1990, Spring and Fall 1991, and
Spring 1992. So, as you partake in the annual ritual of spring cleaning around your home, we ask that you
help locate any editions of Bachelors. It’s a crucial part of the school’s history that needs to be restored.
While these specific time frames for missing Bachelors have been noted, the Archives is always interested
in any Wabash memorabilia you might have to offer. If you have something you believe might be of
interest please contact Beth Swift in the Ramsey Archives at 765-361-6378 or swiftb@wabash.edu.
