Equality Act 2010

The Equality Act 2010 is a law that can make things better for disabled people.

For disabled people who are applying for a job there is something called “Reasonable Adjustment” which allows employers to change for example the ways they interview an individual, the number of hours a person works, the way an application form is presented.

Equality Act says that employers must give people who have a disability extra help to do their jobs if they need it.

If you have a disability it is a good idea to tell your future employer on the Equal Opportunities Form because then you can expect them to make changes to suit your needs.

Gateshead Council displays the Positive about

Disabled People Symbol. One of the things this means is that if you have a disability which you tell the council about when you apply for a job, you are guaranteed an interview if you can show on the application form that you have the skills in the You Must Have section on the Job Profile.
