Final Professional Growth Plan
Student Name: Fred E. Sieber, Jr.
Professional Growth Statement:
As a Marine I learned a very valuable trait: Know yourself and seek self-improvement. In order to become a proficient teacher I must constantly reflect. My
student teaching experienced has reinforced the importance of reflection and its impact on improvement. Therefore, I will continue reflect on my planning and
preparation, classroom management/learning environment, instruction, parent/community involvement, and communication skills. I will strive to stay abreast of
and apply valid teaching strategies in my classroom. I will also reflect on my personal beliefs and traits in order to determine how they affect all of these areas. I
will use the experience of other teachers, professional publications, and experience to improve myself in all domains. I take these actions with the firm belief that,
in the end, it is all about the student.
Timeline: This plan should address your plans for professional growth over the next five years.
DOMAIN

PLANNING AND
PREPARATION
STANDARD
A. Knowledge of Content
and Pedagogy
ACTIONS TO ACCOMPLISH
STANDARD
I will stay abreast of teaching
pedagogy through professional
organizations. I will read
pedagogy related literature.
TIMELINE FOR
COMPLETION
HOW OUTCOMES WILL
BE EVALUATED
Continuous. I currently belong
to the NEA, FEA, and PDK.
Student assessments and
ability to master goals and
objectives. Ability of
student teacher to
incorporate various teaching
strategies.
RW 9.29.08
B. Instructional Planning
and Resources
I will utilize TaskStream for
creation of all lesson plans and
use technology (e.g., ELMO) to
model instruction to my
students.
Continuous
I will also use the Graduated
Release model for lessons.
This standard will be
evaluated by my ability to
deliver an effective and well
structures lesson.
The Graduated Release
model will enhance student
achievement by presenting
them with a standard
method of learning.
C. Instructional Design
I will focus on standards and
objectives when creating and
implementing lessons. I will
connect standards, objectives
and assessments to ensure
student success.
Continuous.
Evaluated by student ability
to master the lesson goals
and objective.
D. Assessment
I will ensure the validity and
reliability of assessments by
ensuring they are tied to the
standards and objectives.
I will create and use assessments
that integrate curriculum
standards and use authentic
application.
Within first teaching year.
Evaluated through
consistent test and reviews
of the purpose and context
of assessments.
Evaluated through the
increasing levels of
authentic application
assessments. For example, I
will create assessments that
challenge students to
conduct research, practice
writing skills, and apply
content to the real world.
RW 9.29.08
A. Managing Classroom
Procedures
I will implement one of Harry
Wong's basic principles:
establish good control of the
class in the very first week of
school. I will use the first three
days of each school year to
practice expectations and
procedures.
Yearly
Although taught during the
first week, procedures are
ongoing and dependent
upon student success. If
students need additional
instruction, I will set aside
re-teach time.
B. Managing Student
Behavior
I will establish classroom
expectations that are clear,
concise, and effective. I will
ensure that students and parents
are aware of the expectations
and consequences. I will also
ensure that students practice the
expectations during the first
week of each school year.
Yearly
Constantly evaluated
through student behavior.
Expectations and
consequences (positive and
negative) will be evaluated
and adapted as necessary.
C. Creating a Positive
Learning Climate
I will always communicate
positive expectations and
challenge all students. I will
model this by maintaining an
optimistic belief that all students
can succeed. I will also maintain
high expectations for myself
because a positive attitude must
come from within.
Continuous
Evaluated through the
attitudes and academic
success of my students.
DOMAIN TWO:
LEARNING
ENVIRONMENT
RW 9.29.08
DOMAIN
STANDARD
A. Communication
ACTIONS TO ACCOMPLISH
STANDARD
TIMELINE FOR
COMPLETION
HOW OUTCOMES WILL
BE EVALUATED
I will continue to use technology
to communicate lessons and
expectations. For example, I will
use an ELMO to model journal
entries.
Continuous. Technology is
constantly changing. Although
I already apply this standard
consistently, I must continue
to consistently apply this
action.
Review of lesson plans,
after-lesson feedback from
the mentor teacher that will
be assigned to me during
my first year of teaching.
I will model appropriate speech
and expectations.
Student responses to
appropriate speech and
expectations.
B. Student Engagement
I will utilize a balance of direct
instruction and student centered
instruction.
Continuous. Although I
already incorporate this, it
requires continuous reflection
and improvement.
Review of student
performance and ability to
transfer knowledge to the
world outside the classroom.
C. Diversity
I will utilize culturally diverse
cooperative learning groups that
inspire understanding and
various viewpoints.
Continuous
Evaluated by the students'
willingness to see different
perspectives of issues and
concepts.
DOMAIN THREE:
INSTRUCTION
I will bring my experience as a
21-year Marine into a classroom
that consists entirely of military
and DoD families. Being a
military child, during the longest
war in military history, is
challenging and I will strive to
ease the burden though my
personal experience and
dedication to the students.
Evaluated by students'
willingness talk to me about
such matters.
RW 9.29.08
A. Parent and Community
Involvement
I will begin each year with a
personal phone call to each
parent. This will increase the
prospect of a positive
relationship with parents.
I will communicate regularly
through a classroom newsletter
that highlights achievements.
I will seek to involve the
military community into
classroom activities.
DOMAIN FOUR:
THE PROFESSIONAL
EDUCATOR
Weekly, monthly, and
continuous.
As a student teacher, I asked
for and received permission, to
take the lead on
communication with parents. I
have demonstrated
professionalism tied to
genuine concern for the
students. I have gained the
respect of most parents (you
can't win them all), which is
demonstrated by their
willingness to being
information or issues to my
attention.
Evaluated by the level of
parental involvement in the
classroom, the trust that
parents have of me, and the
level of community
involvement in classroom
and school activities.
I have successfully gained the
involvement of the military in
the school flag club. Military
members taught students how
to properly raise and lower the
American and Japanese flags.
B. Professionalism
I will always dress for success
by wearing dress slacks, dress
shoes, a button-up shirt, and a
tie. This will model to the
students that I take teaching and
my appearance seriously.
Continuous. I will continue to
wear dress slacks, dress shoes,
a button-up shirt, and a tie to
school daily.
Evaluated through mentor
teacher and administrator
reviews of my professional
appearance.
RW 9.29.08
C. Reflection
I will reflect on my content
knowledge, teaching style, and
pedagogy. I will do this by
continuing the daily reflection
currently required by my
cooperative teacher.
Continuous.
Evaluated through
administrative evaluations
and peer feedback. Yet the
most important evaluation
will be my personal and
professional growth as a
teacher.
