Independent Living
Independent Living focuses on developing the skills to manage your finances now and throughout your life.
You will have the opportunity to plan for living independently and setting up your own household with all the
fun and financial responsibilities involved. Topics covered include goal setting, needs & wants, spending plans,
credit, saving and investing, insurance, housing, taxes, retirement, and consumer protections.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS / SUPPLIES
1. Bring all needed class supplies to class everyday. This includes:



Binder or Class Folder with Pockets
Notebook paper
Pens / Pencils
2. Maintain your class binder/ folder and other supplies. Your folder serves as your main resource.
Bring it to class each day and collect the important information your teacher gives you. Folders
may be graded periodically throughout the semester; therefore, it is important to keep it
organized.
3. Actively and cooperatively participate in class discussions, lessons, and activities.
4. A comprehensive final exam will be given at the end of the semester.

GRADING:
Course Grades are weighed as such: 70 percent is summative (tests, projects) and 30 percent is formative (in
class assignments, quizzes, homework). Grading Scale is below. Please check progress book weekly. If there
are any questions or concerns about your grade please ask.

90% -- 100% = A
80% -- 89% = B
70% -- 79
= C
60% -- 69%
= D
59% below
= F

2. Warm Up: On the board, a written assignment will appear. You are expected to record the date,
question(s) and answer(s) on a piece of paper at the beginning of class. This paper will be collected at the end
of the week for a grade. Keep all warm up activities for the week on one piece of paper.
3. When You Are Absent: If you are absent from class, you are expected to make up any missed work. You
will have the amount of time you missed plus one day to make up the work. When you come back to class,
you are expected to check the assignment folder in the class crate.
4. Turning in Assignments: Homework assignments are expected to be turned in at the beginning of class
before the class lesson begins. In-class assignments are expected to be turned in at the end of class. Extended
time may be given for an in class assignment by the instructor.
5. Late Assignments: 10% deduction. No late or missing assignments will be accepted after the unit test or
project.
6. Hall Pass Usage: The hall pass should be used for emergencies only!!! You must fill out the hall pass sheet
and take the hall pass before leaving.
7. Bringing your own Technology: Students are encouraged to bring any technology that can assist or enrich
their education at the discretion of the teacher. Laptops, smartphones, ipads, tablets, etc. are permissible in
the classroom at the appropriate times.

Safety Procedures:
1. Fire Drill- Go out woodshop doors. Walk the ally by stadium. Meet on grass, Stow Ave towards 6th street.
2. Tornado Drill- Little Gym.
3. Lock Down- Smartboard wall.
4. Place & Secure- In the classroom with door closed.
* For all safety procedure: All equipment needs to be turned off, windows need to be closed, lights off, door
closed, and everyone needs to be quiet to hear additional information. Thank you for your cooperation. *
