Course Objectives
This course enhances students' ability to function in a project leadership role. While exploring the project life
cycle, they gain experience in budget and timeline management. Project management software is used to
design project schedules using methods such as bar charts, program evaluation review technique (PERT) and
critical path method (CPM) to produce project plans to apply to the solution of case studies.
(4 credit hours).
Textbooks and Materials
The textbooks are A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide) by the
Project Management Institute and Project Management: The Managerial Process by Gray and Larson. The
software is Microsoft Project, available with your student software. You will need storage for saving your
project files.
Class Rules and Procedures
.
Attendance is mandatory per DeVry standards. No food/drink, opened or unopened, will be allowed in the
classroom. All cellular phones and pages must be on non-audible signal. No student will be allowed to
use his or her computer in the classroom unless authorized by the instructor! Attendance is the
responsibility of the student. If you are absent, you are solely responsible for assessing class information
missed. There is no tardy policy for this class; you are either on
time or not.

F=less than 60%.
Ground Rules
** If you miss a quiz, there is NO make-up. Each student will be allowed one missed quiz and the
student’s score on the final will replace this missed quiz score. Any other missed quizzes will be recorded as
a zero. For those who take all the quizzes, your percentage score on the final will replace the lowest of your
regular quiz scores if your final is higher than that score.
** After week 2, MS PROJECT ASSIGNMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED LATE. For those who
care to work ahead, I will try to have posted on my web site and e-college all of the assignments.
** All assignments and exams are expected to be each student's own work. All students are expected to
abide by the published DeVry policy statement on academic honesty. The expectations placed on students
are: "Students are expected to submit their own work. Any attempt to circumvent or assist in the
circumvention of this expectation of academic honesty is subject to disciplinary action as specified in the
Student Code of Conduct." If you are in any way unclear about DeVry’s stringent policy, please review it
again in your Student Handbook. All work is expected to be your own unless the assignment is specifically
described as group.
.
** Students should check my web site and e-college on a weekly basis for class information. I usually
update the sites by Monday morning, if not daily.
** Due to the nature of the assignments and group projects, no assignments will be accepted by e-mail.
Mgmt404 Group Project
Groups will consist of 2-4 students. Each group will be evaluated as a team and each individual member will be
evaluated separately to determine final points (grade). Evaluation sheets will be passed out at least twice
during the course of this project. Member participation is required to obtain points on all of these
assignments. It will be each team’s responsibility to work out a mutually acceptable schedule for team
assignments and to elect a project leader. There may be some class time available for these projects but they
will require additional time to complete – also known as HOMEWORK!!!!
The group project CANNOT be your senior project – no exceptions!! This is an assignment to setup a project –
not to actually complete a project. All projects will require professor approval BEFORE work may begin.
All assignments will be graded on specific requirements, as outlined below, AND on professional/business
appearance. Sloppy and incomplete work will heavily penalize each assignment. All printouts from
Microsoft Project should use proper headings and all information contained in columns should be visible.
The grading for this project will carry the same weight as your final exam and will be figured into the 20% portion
of your lecture grade.
