8 COLLEGES WITH GREAT FINANCIAL AID FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
1. Amherst College
Amherst College has a need-blind admissions policy and it meets 100% of demonstrated
need through scholarships, grants, and employment, and yes, this includes international
students (and transfer international students). Besides that, the college has replaced
need-based student loans with grant assistance plus $1800 in an employment
opportunity. If a student decides to take out a loan (for other expenses, or to replace
employment), the loan will be interest-free while the student is in school, and low-interest
after graduation. Financial aid may also be used to study abroad. So, basically, you get a
great education while graduating debt-free. Doesn’t get much better than that.
2. Colby-Sawyer College
This liberal arts college located in New Hampshire offers different scholarships for
international students that range from $15,000 to $24,000 per year. These academic
scholarships are automatically granted (no separate application is needed) based on a
student’s grade point average or equivalent letter and number grades from the student’s
Secondary School Transcript or College/University Transcripts, if applicable. Scholarships
are renewable for up to four years. Besides this, Colby-Sawyer will review each
international student’s situation to determine if more financial assistance can be

provided. However, if a student decides to live off-campus (after the first mandatory two
years of on-campus living) grants will be reduced by $5,000.
3. Concordia College
Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota offers scholarships for international students
based on academic ability and family need. These scholarships range up to $25,000 per
year. When applying, you should submit the application form, and when you are accepted
you will be notified of the award amount. You will receive the same amount each year.
There are also IB Scholarships available. Students with an IB Diploma who achieve 30 or
more points will automatically receive a scholarship of $5,000 per year and 24 transfer
credits. Music, theatre, visual arts, and speech and debate scholarships are also available.
4. Lawrence Technological University
Located in Southfield, Michigan, Lawrence Tech University focuses in engineering,
architecture, science, and applied technology. Undergraduate international students are
eligible to apply for all academic scholarships available for US citizens. These scholarships
are based on high school GPA and SAT/ACT scores. They range from $6,000 to full tuition
and are renewable for up to four years. Other scholarships are available for transfer and
current students.
5. University of Louisiana at Lafayette
Of course, this list would not be complete without my amazing university. According to
the U.S. Department of Education’s College Affordability and Transparency List, the
University of Louisiana at Lafayette is the most affordable university in Louisiana. Not only
that, but it is among the top 10 percent of the most affordable four-year public
universities in the United States. You may be wondering how this relates to international
students, and I am pleased to tell you the university offers three non-resident fee waivers
for students from countries outside the United States. These scholarships are based on
high school GPA, SAT/ACT scores and TOEFL scores for incoming freshmen and on college
GPA for transfer students.
6. East Tennessee State University
East Tennessee State University (ETSU) offers the International Students Academic Merit
Scholarship, open to new international students seeking undergraduate or graduate
education. This scholarship covers 50% of the total of in and out-of-state tuition and
maintenance fees. Students have to be admitted before they can apply to this scholarship.
The scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate academic ability. A scholarship

application must be submitted along with a letter of recommendation. The award is
available for eight semesters for undergraduates and five semesters (or commensurate
with the length of the program) for graduate students.
7. Clark University
Located in Worcester, Massachusetts, this small research university offers the Global
Scholars Program to high school students who are not permanent residents or citizens of
the United States, as well as U.S. citizens/permanent residents who reside overseas and
will complete their entire secondary school education outside the United States.
Candidates must demonstrate potential to assume leadership in their communities and
they must be committed to making a difference in the world. Students admitted to the
program will receive a scholarship of at least $15,000 per year, a $2,500 stipend for a paid
internship or research assistantship taken for academic credit, and participation in the
Global Scholars Mentor Program. Applicants with greater financial need than the amount
of the award may be eligible for additional assistance. The LEEP (Liberal Education and
Effective Practice) Scholarship is also available for international students. This scholarship
covers tuition and room and board for four years. Finalists are chosen based on academic
record and on the strength of their applications.
8. Illinois Wesleyan University
Qualified international applicants are eligible for merit-based scholarships that range from
$10,000 to $25,000 per year. These awards are renewable for up to four years and are
granted on a basis of academic achievement and test scores. Sometimes, additional
assistance is provided through loans and campus employment. Moreover, two full-tuition
President’s International Student Scholarships are awarded each year to two international
students. Each of these scholarships is also renewable for four years.
