A Quick Senior FAFSA Review

The FASFA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It is the form that the federal government uses to determine your eligibility for federal student aid. This aid includes grants, scholarships, work study and loans to help you pay for college. The form collects financial and demographic information.

Where can I get a FAFSA?

Complete FAFSA on the WEB: www.fafsa.ed.gov This is free of charge and should be the only site you use to file the FAFSA. We have worksheets, available in the guidance office, which describes the information, which you will submit if you choose to file via the internet.

Get a paper version by calling Federal Student Aid or visiting www.edpubs.org

Call 1-800-4-FED-AID (433-3243)

Apply For Your PIN now

The Personal Identification Number (PIN) is the code that the U.S. Department uses to identify you online. Initially, you do not need a PIN to complete your FAFSA on the Web. However, a

PIN allows you to:

Electronically sign your FAFSA, which can speed up the process.

Check the status of your electronic FAFSA

Make any changes necessary to your personal information online.

Keep your PIN private, as it allows you (or someone else) to electronically sign federal documents and access confidential information.

How Do I Get a PIN?

Students AND parents who are eligible to receive a PIN can visit www.pin.ed.gov and click on

“Apply for PIN” at the bottom of the page. You can choose to receive your PIN via e-mail notification or regular mail. You will need to submit your name, date of birth and social security number to receive a PIN. YOU CAN GET A PIN NOW!

FAFSA On-Line...The Way to Go

Over 80% of parents/students file on-line FAFSA’s.

FAFSA on the Web can:

 Allow the federal processor to do a “final check” of your information to make sure your

FAFSA is ready for processing before it is submitted, which will cut down on mistakes.

Speed up the FAFSA process by 4-5 weeks.

Cut down on postal service problems or delays

Tips For Completing the FAFSA

Complete your FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1st. The FAFSA becomes available on January 1st of each year. Early submission maximizes your chances of receiving financial aid.

Submit the FAFSA even if you don’t think you qualify for aid. Sometimes being rejected for federal aid is a prerequisite for receiving private awards.

 Contact your prospective college’s financial aid office for additional information. Your school may require forms in addition to the FAFSA or may have an earlier submission deadline. Don’t forget to keep copies of all submitted documents for your records.

TIP—– If you provide an e-mail address on your FAFSA, you will receive your PIN and

Student Aid Report (SAR) via e-mail only. You will not receive it via U.S. Postal mail.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS
