Checklist for New MFT Graduate Students in the
Department of Food Science and Technology
Once accepted:
____ Notify the department of your intention to attend UGA

____ International students - contact Office of International Affairs/ International Student,
Scholar and Immigration Services concerning status of student visa and I-20 forms

website of International Student Life (http://www.uga.edu/isl/ ) for information that
would facilitate a smooth transition. E-mail: ugaisl@uga.edu. Phone: 706-542-5867.
____ Students should visit the University Health Center website to confirm if vaccinations
are needed. All new students entering the University of Georgia must complete
required record forms. These forms can be obtained at
http://www.uhs.uga.edu/appts_forms/open_comm.html. For more information, call
the health center at 706-542-1162 or visit www.uhs.uga.edu/. Registration for classes
will not be permitted until the required forms are received by the University Health
Center.

Get UGA My ID Once student number and identification have been obtained, go online to MyID to
create username and email (https://myid.uga.edu/). This is needed for all computerbased correspondences and OASIS (course registration) activities. All official UGA
announcements and correspondence will take place through this account. It is the
student’s responsibility to monitor their account and it is recommended that it be
checked at least once a week. For help, see Enterprise Information Technology
Services (EITS) Help Desk.
For enrollment:
____ Email or phone Dr. Wicker regarding course offerings and information needed to be
cleared to register.

Register for courses through OASIS (https://oasisweb.uga.edu/ ). An overview of
OASIS can be found at http://www.reg.uga.edu/oasis.

Students needing information about financial aid will receive assistance from the
Office of Student Financial Aid on the Athens Campus.

____ Pay tuition and required fees. Tuition and fees may be paid by credit/debit card online
through OASIS (select ‘payment options’ while in OASIS), or in person at the
Bursar’s Office on 424 E Broad St (http://www.bursar.uga.edu/ or call 706-542-2965.
____ Get a UGA card. A UGA Card allows you to access any facility or service that
requires you to identify yourself as a UGA student, such as computer labs, libraries
and ticket purchases. For information about obtaining your UGA Card, see:
http://www.uga.edu/studentaffairs/gwinnett/handbook/resources/ugacard.html. Please
note that students must be accepted and registered to be eligible for a UGA Card.
____ Before the first class:
____ Purchase a headset for your computer (approx. $30)
____ Courses are offered through eLearning Commons (eLC), the centrally supported
online learning management system at the University of Georgia. For
information about using eLC, go to https://www.elc.uga.edu/
____ Wimba Classroom is the two-way live audio online classroom space used for
the MFT courses. It requires just a few settings on your computer. Before
attending a class via Wimba Classroom, it is a good idea to run the Setup
Wizard.
____ Sign-up for the Food Science listserv – Most notices and communications concerning
the program are posted on the departmental listserv. Contact Beth Knight at
bknight@uga.edu to request addition to the listserv.
