OPEN WATER CERTIFICATION CHECKLIST
Congratulations on completing the classroom and pool training portion of your Open Water
Scuba Diver course at Huron Scuba. You are now signed up for the Open Water Certification
program that, upon successful completion, leads to earning your certification card. If you
purchase a scuba equipment package prior to your first open water certification dive, there is no
charge by Huron Scuba for the five dives in this program. Otherwise, the instruction fee is $105
and the rental fee is $69, for a total of $174. These charges are non-refundable once paid and
need to be paid again if you rent equipment and require additional instruction on another date. If
you chose dual PADI/NAUI certification, you must have tables for both agencies, pay an
additional $50 and pass both agencies’ examinations (includes the dive table) .
Your instructor will assign buddy pairs using his/her best judgment and require that you
successfully perform all of the skills you acquired in the pool as well as mastery of the compass.
If do not feel prepared for certification, contact us immediately to schedule further instruction.
1.
You have signed up for Open Water Certification on the following days and times: first
day:________________time:_________ estimated completion: __________________________.
Expect your drive to White Star to be at least 1:40 from Ann Arbor and try to arrive at least :15
early for your class . The class will participate in dive planning, logging, SAC rate
calculationse tables the evening between dives . Get a good night’s sleep the evening between
dives at a local campground or hotel; DON’T PLAN TO DRIVE HOME . For White Star
Quarry, we recommend the Comfort Inn & Suites in Freemont, Ohio (1-888-355-1950) – ask for
the “Huron Scuba Special”, valid all year long, for $70.55 plus tax for a room and breakfast
(+$12.75 for a jacuzzi or kitchenette!). We will eat dinner at the Applebee’s (10% discount) or
another restaurant nearby the Freemont Comfort Inn.
2. Your expected instructor is _________________________ and his/her cellular number only
for emergencies the day of the dive is: ________________________________.
3. You must complete a rental reservation form  and reserve specific equipment  to better
ensure that you get the equipment and sizing that you desire. Until you have completed that
form and paid your fees, you have not reserved equipment. Rental equipment is limited.
4. You must supply snorkeling equipment as you did in your pool training, including swimsuit
, towel , mask , fins , booties , snorkel , defog  and, if you desire, personal mouthpiece
. Also bring snacks , sunscreen , and about $40  for air fills, parking, and meals.
5. You must own or rent the following equipment for diving: Wetsuit  appropriate for
conditions, tank , regulator set , BC with power inflator , weight belt  and weights  (at
least 20#s and probably more). You must own dive tables , logbook , and an underwater
watch or (rental OK) dive computer . You should own gloves  and a hood  (seasonally;
hoods now available for rental $5).
6. Your instructor will bring a tarp for the class to set up equipment. She/he will not bring any
equipment for you (you bring it ) but will have an emergency repair kit and DAN Oxygen Kit.
7. It is highly recommended that you upgrade your DAN Student Insurance to regular status
prior to your  first dive because the student insurance provides minimal coverage. Call DAN @
1-800-446-2671 and use Sponsor Code #414981 .
