Cleveland ASTD is sponsoring a free study group for chapter
members to help learning and development professionals
increase their knowledge in the nine areas of expertise defined
in the ASTD Competency Model. The study group will also
prepare participants to obtain their CPLP credential.
Meet the Facilitators:
1. Designing Learning (March 28)
Bob Vaughn is the author of The Professional Trainer
and has written articles for ASTD. He has taught
train-the-trainer courses for over 30 years. He leads
Arvon Management Services.
About the CPLP:

Delivering Training (April 25)
Kelly Chickos, CPLP, is the Manager of Corporate
Training and Development for STERIS Corporation.
She has been in Training and Development for over
15 years and has lead learning and development
strategies with GOJO Industries, Key Bank, and
Charles Schwab.
3.
Improving Human Performance (May 23)
Elizabeth Klar, CPLP, has nearly 10 years in
designing, developing and facilitating corporate
training programs on topics such as customer service,
management, entrepreneurship and real estate. She
is the managing partner of The Reis Group LLC.
4.
Measuring and Evaluating (June 27)
George Skerritt is the Director of Learning Outcomes
Assessment at Tri-C where he manages the
assessment process for over 90 Associate Degree
programs. He retired from the Army where he worked
as an Instructional Designer.
5.
Career Planning & Talent Management (July 11)
Sheri Mazurek, SPHR, has over 17 years of
experience in Talent Management and Employee
Development. She is the HR Director for
EmployeeScreenIQ and an adjunct faculty member at
Ursuline College facilitating courses in HR.

Coaching (July 25)
Sherry Greenleaf is a Registered Corporate Coach
and performance consultant with more than 20 years
of business and management experience. She is the
co-founder of IMPACT Training & Development Inc.
7.
Facilitating Organizational Change (August 8)
Kathy Telban, CPT, SPHR, is the Director of
Curriculum and Assessment for Tri-C and the founder
and Managing Partner for iSOLVit LLC, an
organizational effectiveness consulting firm. She has
over 20 years in information technology, training,
performance improvement and organizational change.

Managing Organizational Knowledge (Sept 12)
Lori Klepfer is the Founder and CEO of LJK
Consulting, LLC, a provider of custom learning
programs and programs that address the ‘people’ side
of technology implementations. She is also a
business writing coach.
The ASTD Model provides a basis for a competency-based
certification program that tests the core knowledge, skills,
actions, and behaviors judged most critical for successful
performance.
You must have a minimum of three years related work
experience and pass both a knowledge exam and work
product assessment.
Knowledge Exam is Sept. 15 – Oct. 6 and Nov. 9 – Dec. 8
Work Product is due Feb. 22, 2013

About the study group:
The study group will kick off on March 7th at 6pm at Mavis
Winkles. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided by Cleveland ASTD.
Facilitators and participants will gather to meet each other,
hear from those that have obtained the CPLP credential, and
learn what it will take to prepare for the exam and work
product.
Study group participants will meet the 4th Wednesday from
March through June and then the 2nd and 4th Wednesday from
July through September. The sessions will be facilitated by
experts in each area using GoToMeeting. The session will be
recorded and posted on the ASTD website. Facilitators may
also blog on their area of expertise and post questions on the
discussion forum. We are hoping that all members will
participate in the discussion forum.

purchase study materials at a discount and pay the
National rate for CPLP certification.

Certification fee is $799 for National members ($999
for non-members)

The ASTD Learning System for National members is
$479 ($639 for non-members)
The CPLP study group is free to Cleveland ASTD members
and $75 for non-members, which will include membership for
the year. Individual sessions can be purchased for $10 for
non-members. Members can sign up for any of the sessions to
increase their knowledge in that area of expertise.
