Position Title: COORDINATOR OF COMMUNITY SERVICE OUTREACH
Type of Position: Part-Time
Position Reports to: Bill Thompson, Director
Anticipated Service Schedule: 20 hours per week – flexible schedule. Occasional evening
and/or weekend hours may be necessary. Must be available at the After School Program from
3:30 – 5:30 PM Monday-Thursday.
Position Summary:
This member works with churches in Bowling Green and parts of Wood County to develop a
network of support for people (especially the homeless) who do not have access or are aware of
public supported social services available to them. This member will also organize student
volunteers from BGSU and the community to provide direct services to people in need.
Position Responsibilities:
1. Help to establish and promote a central place at UCF where people could come to or phone
in order to get referrals to churches in the area that provide service for those in need.
2. Coordinate a partnership between churches so that the services they provide are not
duplicated by other churches or agencies.
3. Create and implement a volunteer recruitment, training and recognition plan for BGSU
students and townspeople to staff this referral center.
4. Recruit and work with pastors and lay people who are interested in establishing a homeless
shelter for sleeping as well as a “day” shelter for people to gather during the day for food,
shelter and socializing.
5. Recruit and work with people who are interested in renting or purchasing a house where a
family could live for a period of time until they have the means to rent or buy a home of their
own.
6. Word with the Director of UCF to determine if it is possible to convert the UCF building into
living space for people who are homeless.
7. Create and implement a volunteer recruitment, training and recognition plan for people to
volunteer to work in the day center and/or homeless shelter.
8. Assist the program directors with all aspects of planning, implementation, and evaluation of
the shelters.
9. Assist the UCF Board of Directors in its efforts to transform the UCF into a link between local
religious and social service organizations to better connect community members to available
services.
10. Provide support and development to UCF’s programs, including the Bowling Green AfterSchool Program, the Community Clothing Closet, Community Meals and other projects
initiated during the member’s term of service.
11. Initiate and implement public relations projects to create visibility for the UCF’s programs
and for other programs offered by organizations to which UCF is linked.
12. Complete all United Way AmeriCorps paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
13. Travel within Wood County as necessary to coordinate activities
Requirements & Qualifications:

Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills

Excellent time and task management skills

Good word processing skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office products

Experience with at least one of the following: community service, volunteerism, servicelearning, student organizations and leadership, community organizations, alternative breaks,
or federal work-study employment

Excellent knowledge of the BGSU campus and BG community

Legal driver with personal transportation

Preferred will be a BGSU student or graduate who has had experience on campus as a
student leader, as a student worker in an on-campus unit, or as a participant in campussponsored internships or student activities. Experience working with alternative breaks
and/or immersion trips would be an advantage.

Criminal Background & Motor Vehicles Check
High School Diploma or GED
Must be at least 18 years of age
1st Aid/CPR Certification
(UWA will provide training in these areas during the Service Year, so if you Member does not have this
experience when they begin service, they will be receiving it during their service. If the Member must have
the training prior to receiving it from UWA, please contact UWA Management.)
In addition to standard UWA Requirements, this position will require the following additional
