SUMMARY OF PARTICULAR AREAS OF INTEREST
A small number of stories generated much of the press coverage this month. Leading the
field was a story about how different races coped differently with a cancer diagnosis
which was picked by the regional press in particular as well as ethnic media.
Professor Martin Gill generated national and regional media coverage from his research
into identity theft and the risk posed by unused polling cards
The continuing European interest in a Mars mission also excited press coverage with
Professor Mark Sims being cited in national and regional media
The Genetics department anniversary celebrations led to features in The Guardian and the
Leicester Mercury.
Expert comment, particularly from John Williams (Sociology) earned the University a
place in national press, particularly an Observer supplement on the Heysel stadium
disaster.
