PRESS RELEASE DRAFT
Kaspersky Lab Extends “IT Security for the Next
Generation” Conference to the United States
Partnering with the Polytechnic Institute of New York University, Kaspersky Lab
Launches American Cup 2012: Student Cyber Security Competition
Woburn, MA – August 31, 2011 – Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content and threat
management solutions and one of the world’s leaders in cyber security, will expand its acclaimed
international research conference, “IT Security for the Next Generation,” to university students in the
United States. Partnering with the Polytechnic Institute of New York University (NYU-Poly), the
conference will take place within the NYU-Poly Cyber Security Awareness Week (CSAW) November 1011, 2011.
The inspirational conference brings together students, experts, scientists and researchers in a
collaborative environment to present and discuss issues relating to cybercrime. To participate in the
conference and Kaspersky’s American Cup at NYU-Poly CSAW, which will be an extension of CSAW’s
other challenges, potential attendees must submit research on the topic of “Cyber Security” by
October 10, 2011. Selected authors will be invited to attend the conference and are automatically
entered in the challenge and asked to present their papers. The winning submissions, as identified
by a program committee, will be invited to attend the 2012 Kaspersky International Cup of the IT
Security Conference for Young Professionals, which will take place in Europe in May 2012.
Additionally, first place will receive $1500, second place $1000 and third place $750.
“‘IT Security for the Next Generation’ is a platform for future experts to share and to collaborate. It’s a
venue where new ideas are born—ideas that will improve and shape the future of security,” said
Eugene Kaspersky, co-founder and CEO, Kaspersky Lab. “By partnering with NYU-Poly, we’re able to
tap into the minds of the young researchers of tomorrow and foster communication and collaboration
with the experts of today. We've had great international success and are excited for Kaspersky Lab to
bring this program to North America's brightest academia.”
“This partnership with Kaspersky Lab will take CSAW to the next level by adding formal instruction to
an event that provides hands-on challenges and interaction with security professionals,” said Nasir
Memon, who heads NYU-Poly’s cyber security program. “The American Cup 2012 challenge will also
attract a new set of student researchers with new, unpublished work on important security issues.”

About NYU-Poly’s CSAW Challenges
In addition to the American Cup, CSAW hosts other challenges at NYU-Poly. The widest-ranging
student competition of its kind, CSAW has been challenging top cyber security students to improve
their skills through a series of fast-paced competitions since 2004. CSAW preliminary challenges
regularly draw more than 1,000 international professionals and students, but only student teams
from the United States are eligible to become finalists and win a trip to New York to participate on the
Brooklyn campus of NYU-Poly.
Valuable prizes, invaluable experience and interaction with top cyber security academics and
professionals have been hallmarks of all CSAW competitions, which are open to high school and
university students. Participation in all CSAW challenges is free of charge. Top cyber security students
of NYU-Poly and NYU head teams comprised of students, faculty and industry professionals who
design the challenges, and the students help recruit the noted professionals who act as judges.
