What is Academic WorldQuest?
Academic World Quest is a high school academic competition testing the
competitors' knowledge of world affairs, geography, history, culture, flags, sports,
current events, leaders, economics, international organizations, and more.
Who Can Play?
Any high school interested in forming a team can play. Teams can be formed by
students, teachers, clubs, or organizations, multiple teams may be entered from
any given high school. A team consists of four students and one coach. Each
school may register up to three teams.
The students must be in 9th - 12th grade, and the coach must be a faculty
member of the one of the schools represented.
How is WorldQuest Played?
The topics for WorldQuest include: world affairs, geography, history, culture,
flags, sports, current events, leaders, economics, international organizations, and
more. The game is played in ten rounds of 10 questions each, 30 seconds for
1
each question. Answer sheets are turned in at the end of each round. Answers
are submitted by teams, not by individuals. The trophy is awarded to the team
with the highest total points for the ten rounds. In the event of a tie, a sudden
death round will be played.
How Much Does It Cost?
The cost to compete at WorldQuest is $25.00 per team. Financial hardship
scholarships are available. $25 covers breakfast and lunch for team and sponsor
plus the Great Decisions book. We can help to cover bus costs.
What Happens If My Team Wins?
Medals and trophies are awarded to the first, second and third place teams. The
gold medalists represent the World Affairs Council of Dallas / Fort Worth, their
school, and the city/metroplex at the annual National Academic WorldQuest
competition held in Washington D.C. All expenses for the winning team and
coach travel to the national competition are sponsored by the Council.
Expenses include: roundtrip airfare, lodging, some meals, registration, and fees.
There is no cost to the school or district.
