Course Description: Statistical Reasoning is a two-semester fourth mathematics course
Option for students who have completed CCGPS Advanced Algebra or Accelerated CCGPS
Analytic Geometry B/Advanced Algebra. The course provides experiences in statistics beyond
the CCGPS sequence of courses, offering students opportunities to strengthen their understanding
of the statistical method of inquiry and statistical simulations. Students will formulate statistical
questions to be answered using data, will design and implement a plan to collect the appropriate
data, will select appropriate graphical and numerical methods for data analysis, and will interpret
their results to make connections with the initial question.
Standards for each topic can be found on the website: www.georgiastandards.org
Homework:
 The primary purpose of homework is to provide appropriate practice for you.
 Homework is assigned DAILY except on the day before a test (when you should be
studying) and the day of a test (when you have earned a rest).
 To help insure that you actually do the practice, it will be checked for completeness the
day after it was assigned.
 As responsible students, you should be prepared by doing homework before class.
 Letting another student copy your homework will result in a zero for BOTH of you.
Grading: Grades will be updated weekly on Infinite Campus. Grades will be calculated with the
following weights:
Tests/Projects ------------------------------------------------ 55%
Quizzes/Projects --------------------------------------------- 15%
Daily Grade/Homework ----------------------------------- 10%
Final Exam --------------------------------------------------- 20%
Materials: Bring to school DAILY – Workbooks, previous notes, notebook or paper, pencils,
colored pencils or highlighters, and eraser. Recommended for use at home – calculator, ruler,
graph paper. A classroom set of textbooks will be used, but must remain in the classroom.
Replacement cost of the textbooks is approximately $107, and the replacement copies of the
workbook is approximately $12.
Expectations:
1. Be silent when others are speaking
2. Follow directions the first time they are given.
3. Have a good and pleasant attitude.
4. Respect others and their property.
5. Arrive on time and prepared for class.
6. Respect instructional time – do not talk when we are learning.
7. Make-up work is your RESPONSIBILITY! Please check with me for missed handouts
and with friends for missed notes or assignments.
8. No food, drink or gum in class.
POLICIES & PRACTICES
 I expect students to follow all BHS and GCSS rules and policies.
 Students are expected to raise their hand and wait for me to call on them if they have a
question or wish to make a statement.
 Students should immediately stop talking and moving around when I call the class to
attention.
 Students should turn papers in when collected or place in the basket when directed.
 Tutoring is available on designated days, but is subject to change if needed. Other
teachers will also be available.
 I maintain a calendar on my wall that will note important dates for tests and quizzes. I
also post homework assignments. If students miss notes from class, they can download a
copy of the notes from the SmartBoard.
 BHS math department provides calculators (TI-30 multiview and TI-84) for use by
students in math class. These calculators are not to be taken for use in another subject
area. Students are responsible for returning all calculators to their appropriate place.
 Students who miss tests or quizzes are expected to make them up the day they return
during class OR make arrangements to make them up after school within 3 days. If a test
or quiz is not made up within a reasonable (per GCSS policy) time, then the student will
receive a grade of zero.
CHEATING (Student Honor Code):
Cheating can be defined in many ways. The following list represents some forms of cheating that
will be dealt with:
 Taking information of any form into a test situation for the purpose of responding to test
items or for the purpose of assisting others in responding to test items
 Plagiarism
 Copying an assignment, including homework, book reports, or other work which will be
assigned a grade
 Giving or taking of information concerning a test after one individual has taken a test and
same form of test is to be given in another class period
 Communicating with another during test situations, including talking, passing notes,
texting, mouthing words, or any other form of communication
 Use of another student’s notes on an open-notes test
A student or group of students that has been involved in cheating will receive a zero on the
assignment or test, and parents will be contacted.
Please return this page signed by you and a parent. This counts as an extra HW grade
and is due back by August 12, 2014.
I acknowledge that I have read and reviewed the Advanced Algebra
