About Passfaces
Passfaces is a strong authentication technology company that specializes in graphical passwords and
is based in Virginia. The company was founded in 2000 to commercialize an innovated, patented
technology that leverages the brain’s innate cognitive ability to recognize human faces and to
establish Passfaces as the graphic password standard and universal replacement for traditional
passwords. This patented, next generation, graphical authentication technology is inherently
bidirectional and is totally intuitive to use. The products leverage existing password infrastructure and
are easily applied across all levels of enterprise and consumer applications. The products offer
business, financial services, government, social networks and OEM customers a cost effective, fully
scalable and highly reliable authentication solution that supports business risk management
objectives. For additional information see www.passfaces.com
The Mission
Establish Passfaces as the graphic password standard and universal replacement for traditional
passwords.
The Problem
Increased attacks, new kinds of attacks, phishing and identity theft are on the rise and businesses
and consumers are scared. In 2004 alone, over 10 million people suffered the results of identity theft
as reported by Microsoft. With the rise of Web 2.0 and more social interaction on sites like MySpace,
LinkedIn and YouTube security experts warn that we will see more identity theft, manipulated online
identities and malicious coded inserted into dynamically generated web pages. Online identities are
at risk. Passfaces can be used to authenticate online users by replacing passwords or serve as a
second factor of authentication to strengthen existing security initiatives. In today’s online world
businesses seek out new technologies that will help in executing the risk management strategies they
determine to be necessary.
The Solution
Passfaces™ is an innovative, bidirectional authentication technology that leverages the brain’s innate
cognitive ability to recognize human faces – a powerful and completely intuitive skill that is
independent of age, language or education. Passfaces authenticates the person, rather than a
device or piece of software and cannot be forgotten, lost or easily stolen. The technology requires no
additional user hardware and utilizes the existing password infrastructure to provide a cost effective,
fully scalable and highly reliable strong authentication system.
Passfaces Personal can be used at home to guarantee the end user will never forget his password
again.
There is no technology to learn, nothing to forget, no hardware or cards to carry around. This proven
technology has been adopted and embraced by high level government organizations, financial
institutions and software providers.
