FASHION AND BEAUTY UNIT
Lesson 4: Personal Hygiene
Objectives:
 L I – 9: Recognize and name common colors
 L II – 7: Recognize and name external parts of the body
 L III – 28: Use adverbs to describe feelings
 L IV – 6: Compare American holiday traditions to own
 L V – 23: Role play dialogue between shopper and clerk
 L VI – 15: Make a table given data
Vocabulary:
OPD pages 76-77
Computer: Have students do a search for “ancient fashion” on the Internet.
Activities:
A. Give students pictures of men and women from ancient to modern times (or go to a
website such as www.fashion-era.com) and ask them to write captions using
vocabulary learned in the three previous lessons.
Examples: This man is wearing a skirt. I think he looks okay, but maybe
his legs were cold. (Greek or Roman) This woman looks nice in high
heels, but I like to wear athletic shoes. (Runway model)
B. Have the students select images of hairstyles and clothing from A. that they consider
attractive today.
C. Ask students to bring pictures or examples to class of traditional dress from their
home country or its ethnic cultures. Is this costume still worn? Is the clothing used for
work, social functions, or religious events?
