including your project, lab, plant, colleagues or anything else that will visually
show what your internship, co-op or work abroad experience is all about!
Photos can be from Fall 2008, Spring 2009, or Summer 2009. Email
submissions to Ann Blasick.
VIDEO CONTEST RULES: Create a one to three minute video portraying your
Summer 2009 internship, co-op or work abroad experience. We want to see your
work experience filmed in an entertaining and original way. Video entries can be
scripted masterpieces, spur of the moment video shots, or music videos. Videos

2) Registering Fall Internships: Students can register part-time (20+ hrs/wk) or
full-time internships until this Friday, Aug 21. The process is free and only
takes about 10 minutes.
Obtain an offer letter or email from your employer, and then contact an intern

audit-credit internship course which will maintain your full-time student status
while working and cause your internship to appear on your transcript.
3) Welcome Back Celebration for Interns and Work Abroad Students!
WHEN:
TIME:
WHERE:
Monday, August 24, 2009
4:00pm – 5:30pm
Georgia Tech Student Success Center
President Suite B, C & D
We hope you had a great experience interning in the U.S. or internationally this
summer and/or past academic year! You’re invited to a welcome back event to
celebrate your accomplishments at your internship or work abroad position.
Please RSVP to workabroad@dopp.gatech.edu by Friday, August 14.
4) Fall Career Fair – Sept 14 and 15: Mark your calendar (and if you don’t yet
have a calendar, be sure to get one. It’s a useful tool when job hunting!). The
Fall Career Fair is on Monday, Sept 14 and Tuesday, Sept 15 in the CRC.
A list of companies and the majors they are looking for will soon be posted on
www.career.gatech.edu/employer/career_fairs.php. This is a great way to find a
spring or summer internship! Be sure to plan to go both days as there will be
different companies in attendance each day.
Note: Students do not need to register to attend the Career Fair. Registration is
only for employers.
Here are some tips to help you most effectively navigate a Career Fair:
 Prepare! Before the career fair, prioritize a list of approximately 10-15
companies you plan to talk to.
 Dress to impress. Wear professional attire (a suit if possible).
 Try to carve out a significant time slot (approximately 2 hours) to dedicate
to the career fair each day.
 Take a leather binder with copies of your resume printed on good paper
(you can buy both at the GT bookstore).
 Practice a 30-second introduction including your name, major, year, why
you’re interested in their company, and what type of position you’re
looking for.




5)
Start each conversation with a firm handshake and a confident smile
(even if you’re feeling nervous, which is perfectly normal!).
To calm your nerves, remind yourself that career fair recruiters are often
young GT alumni who were in your shoes just a few short years ago!
Ask about next steps and write them down. If the recruiter tells you to
apply on their company website, be sure to do so even if it seems like
submitting your credentials to a black hole. (Students really do get jobs
this way!).
Ask for the recruiter’s business card or email so that you can send them a
follow-up thank-you email. Attach an electronic copy of your resume to
this email.
Spring and Summer Internship Timeline: If you’re interested in interning this
coming spring or summer, we recommend starting your job search now. Many
companies will start recruiting six or more months in advance!
Here are some steps to get started:
 Get your resume together

 Talk to people you already know – including family, friends, professors,
TAs, and coaches - to gain potential jobs leads
 If you’re interested in larger companies such as Fortune 500 companies,
be sure to apply on their website. Some have their spring and/or summer
internships posted along with deadlines that may be coming up in the
next few weeks.
