Dance Module Seminar Series ⅢEast x West Dance with Cloud Gate

Location: 3F Visual Arts Center in Art & Culture Center
Founded in 1973 by Art Director Lin Hwai-Min, this was Taiwan’s first professional dance
troupe and also the first modern dance troupe in a Chinese speaking society. In the past 38
years, Cloud Gate has presented more than 160 dance performances. Cloud Gate, renowned
for their exquisite prowess and rich performances, have given repeat performances due to
their immense popularity; and have become the common and fond memory of two to three
generations of Taiwanese.

The ultimate goal of any form of art is to provide pleasure and entertainment, enriching
one's life. Music is an art that directly touches the human soul, and to realize this potential,
the musician must simplify the complex melodies, enabling the listener to understand it and
feel the warmth of life – that is the calling of the musician. Although the piece selected for
this concert is a Western composition, the musician has, through his rendition, relayed the
universality of music to his listeners and perhaps also touched their souls with a pleasant
experience.
