Principles of Learning Lab II
Due Date: July 15, 2013
Read Chapter 4 and perform exercises 6 through 9.
Prepare a lab report in APA format answering the following questions based on the completed
exercises. Questions provide a basis to write your report in an essay form. Do not write your
report in points, bullets, or answers to specific questions. Print out all your figures and graphs.
Exercise 6.
What is compound conditioning?
Train Sniffy for compound conditioning both for the experimental condition and separate
pairing control condition. What is the major difference between the two conditions?
Exercise 7.
What is blocking?
Compare the experimental and the control conditions with reference to the strength of
responses generated.
Exercise 8.
What is overshadowing?
Compare the experimental and the control conditions with reference to the strength of
responses generated.
What is the difference between blocking and overshadowing?
Exercise 9.
What is overexpectation?
Why does the exercise on overexpectation not require a control condition?
Exercise 13.
What is higher-order conditioning?
Compare and contrast CS tone and CS light in stage 1 of this conditioning. Then compare both
CSs in the third stage. Does light elicit the response? If it does what do you make of it? Make
sure you include response strength and movement ratio windows in your figures.
