This month the Orange County Chapter is very pleased to be hosting a joint meeting with the
Saddleback Chapter of the National Property Management Association. We’d also like to extend a
special invitation to the students of Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Fullerton, Chapman University, UC
Irvine and UCLA who are interested in the Contract world. Whether you have an interest in
Contract Law, Negotiations, Property Management, etc., this will be a great opportunity to network
amongst professionals specializing in the varied Procurement and Acquisition fields.
We are excited to offer Skip Adolph, a high profile speaker from Sunflower Systems, who will
present on the topic of Property Management. This is an excellent opportunity for our members to
network with a new organization and learn some valuable insights into the ever-evolving topic of
Property Management and how it has become such an integral factor within the Contract
Management field.
I would also like to thank all of you who attended our last meeting which featured two presenters
on the topic "Inside the Contract Management Job Market." Several members took advantage of
the resume workshop as well, and we received great feedback on the program. We extend our
gratitude to our presenters Don Bainum and John Balderrama, who were kind enough to both
deliver presentations and provide their expert advice during the resume workshop.
Our current program year is winding down, and we will have a recess during July and August. At
this time we are soliciting volunteers for Board or Chair positions for the 2010-2011 program year,
so please let us know if you are interested in volunteering. This is a great opportunity to enhance
your resume with a relatively small commitment! We look forward to seeing you all on the 20th.
-Derek Hahn, President, OC NCMA
Employment Update
The Employment market has not been improving as the latest reported
unemployment figure in California is now 12.6% according to the L.A.
Times. It is predicted that jobs will remain scarce throughout his year.
The battered economy saw some improvement in the job arena in
Manufacturing, Education, Health, Leisure and Hospitality fields. Since
2007, California has lost 1.3 million jobs. As you can readily see, the
employment market is very tough. You need to do all you can
networking with Family, Friends, Acquaintances, ex employers and
other contacts, etc. In addition, keep checking our Orange County
Chapter website for opportunities along with those for the Beach
Cities, Anaheim, San Gabriel, Riverside, San Diego and South Bay
Chapters. You can network while attending our monthly meetings and
even hand out your resume to our members at the same time.
If you know of any openings in your company, please contact Dan
Alfonzo VP of Employment, djalfonz@rockwellcollins.com or (949)2215614. Also check our Chapter website

The Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) exam prep course is offered three times a year
through the university. Spring session begins May 1st and Fall session begins October 2nd. It’s a
higher level certification within the APICS hierarchy that, in their own words, “takes a broad
view of the field, extending beyond internal operations to encompass the entire supply chain—
from the supplier, through the company, to the end consumer.” It has experiential and/or
educational requirements that the CPIM designation does not. The course is taught by an
energetic Jimmy Zepeda (an official with APICS). For more information, click here. The
university also offers an Advanced Career Strategies course designed to help you take control
of your own career. It’s valid for everyone, in transition or in anticipation of transition, who

placement professional. For more information, click here.

NCMA CERTIFICATION INFORMATION
NCMA has reduced the complexity of its premier certification program while retaining the
stature of the credentials. The biggest change is the implementation of having only one exam
per certification. Another major change pertains to the general business requirements
removed from the CFCM and CCCM. The CPCM, CFCM, and CCCM are certifications awarded
to candidates who meet rigorous standards, including experience, education, training, and
knowledge. The NCMA professional certification program is designed to elevate professional
standards, enhance individual performance, and distinguish those who demonstrate
knowledge essential to the practice of contract management. For more information see:
http://www.ncmahq.org/GetCertified. Note that at the 2009 NCMA World Congress
Conference it was announced that the CMBOK (Contract Management Body of Knowledge)
would be reviewed and revised. Expect CMBOK v.3 to be rolled out in 2010. In addition, it is
expected that certification exams will be revised in order to conform. Visit NCMA’s home site
for more information about certification: http://www.ncmahq.org/Learn. If interested in
leading or attending a future study group for certification, please contact Chris Arnold at 949553-0688, x 241 or Matt Plaxton 949 (331) 8500.
CPCM STUDY GROUP
Efforts are underway to form a 13-week CPCM Study Group to help those interested prepare
for NCMA Certification testing. The session is expected to get underway this fall, beginning in
September 2010. If you are interested in enrolling in this group, please contact either of the
