1. Introduction:
a. The teacher will ask, “Does anyone know the word of the month? (let the kids
guess)
b. Resilience – being able to think positive (bounce back) in a bad situation.
Ex: If your friend doesn’t want to play with you on the playground, do you
scream & yell or ask someone else to play?
c. The teacher will ask the student to share ways that they have shown resilience in
the past.
2. Activities:

something GOOD and the Mustang shows RESILIENCE, they are to hold up a
SMILE card, if they think it is something BAD and the Mustang did not show
RESILIENCE, they are to hold up a FROWN card. The teacher should pause
after each page & tell them to hold up the card that tells the mood of Franklin
3. Conclusion / Sticker :(please get these for your class)
a. Give each student a sticker & tell them they did a good job. “Resilience is like a
sticker, forever sticking, always be like your sticker & make good choices….& if
you are in a bad situation, try to make into something positive.”

Mustang’s Bad Day
Once upon a time there was a little mustang named Franklin. He went to an elementary
school in a perfect town in Kennesaw, Georgia. Franklin was a good student and liked school.
Franklin’s best subject was math, although he also like physical education too, especially
baseball. One day, Franklin was sitting in math class when his mind started to wander. His
teacher was teaching math at the front of the classroom, but Franklin was thinking about playing
baseball. Franklin was thinking about standing there on the pitching mound…winding up and
throwing the ball as hard as he could to the plate….
strike…one…….strike….two….strike…three…….FRANKLIN!!!!!!!! OOPS!!!! Franklin
immediately remembered where he was at that moment and thought he should get back to math
class and forget about baseball. But…OH NO!!! He had NO IDEA what the teacher had been
talking about for the past half hour and had NO IDEA even what the math lesson was about!!!!!
He knew they were taking about math…but no idea what else. He had been thinking about
baseball…not math!!!!! Now his worse nightmares came to a reality…his teacher asked him to
come to the board and complete a math problem in front of the class!! OH NO!!!!! What was
Franklin going to do???? How could he possibly bounce back from this nightmare?
This was
really a mustang’s bad day!!!! Then Franklin remembered that he completed his homework last
night and the problem on the board was one that he did correctly!!!! WHEW!!!! So Franklin
went up to the board and completed the problem with ease and realized that he should no
daydream in class anymore!!!!!
