Rome is the capital of modern Italy.
Rome is full of history everywhere
you look. It has many ancient
monuments, interesting medieval
churches, beautiful fountains,
museums and Renaissance palaces.
Modern Rome is a bustling and lively
city and has some excellent
restaurants and nightlife. The Vatican
and St. Peter's are also found in
Rome.
Famous people from Italy:
Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) was one of the greatest painters
of all times. He is known as the ultimate Renaissance man because
he was perhaps the most widely talented person ever to have
lived: not only was he a painter and sculptor, he was a great
inventor military engineer, scientist, botanist and mathematician.

 By far the greatest number of
Italians are Roman Catholics.
 Vatican City, an independent
enclave within Rome, is the seat of
the pope, the head of the Roman
Catholic church.
 For centuries the city has attracted
large numbers of pilgrims who
worship in St. Peter's Basilica,
which stands next to the Papal
Palace, the residence of the pope.
 Pilgrims also visit Assisi, the
birthplace of St. Francis, and many
other religious sites in Italy.

Loggia della Signoria holds some important statues including a

political centre since the middle ages and Florence’s town hall, the
medieval Plazzo Vecchio, sits on the Piazza. The Palazzo contains
elaborately decorated public rooms.
