Performing as a part of TribalTique Belly Dance Company
Congratulations! You’ve been invited to join the TribalTique performance level class and are
preparing for your first performance! You have been extended this honor because of your dedication,
good attitude, well developed technique, and your willingness to be challenged. Please know that we
do not take this promotion lightly. TribalTique has spent many years building a solid reputation for
professionalism. This is reflected in our skilled dancing, well put together performances, and solid
public relations – all aspects of the company you will now be representing. When you perform with us
you are TribalTique Belly Dance Company. As a member of TT, everything you say and do reflects
on us and the company. So keep up the good work that got you here and we look forward to having
you as a member of the tribe.
The following is a list of our expectations of you to ensure we maintain the high standards we have
set for our company and ourselves:
You will attend ALL AND EVERY Monday night Level II class. If you have a conflict you will let Julia
know in advance that you will be missing class and will arrange to make up the missed material by
either asking a classmate for their notes or arranging a private lesson with Julia. If you are injured or
feeling unwell you must still attend Level II but you may sit out and observe.
You will attend ALL AND EVERY Monday night Conditioning and Drills class. C&D serves as a
technique developer for Level II and often covers crucial material needed for work in Level II; it is
NOT OPTIONAL. If you are injured or feeling unwell, check with Julia in advance to see if you can
miss C&D that night.
You will memorize and drill new combos and choreography outside of class. It is your responsibility
to take notes on new material, not your instructor’s. Choreography outlines and music will be
provided to you via email. It is your responsibility to take notes on the choreography as the piece
develops in class.
You will attend all dress rehearsals which will be held during Level II class (sometimes during C&D as
well) the week before a show. You will attend this rehearsal well practiced in your choreography and
in full costume (makeup and hair may not be required).
You will be provided with a detailed performance checksheet including arrival times, costume
checklist, and all other pertinent gig info at dress rehearsal.
Before your first performance with TT, you will schedule a minimum one hour private lesson
(discounted company rate of $20) with Julia to learn appropriate TT stage makeup. It is your
responsibility to arrange this with her.
You will always wear the appropriate and agreed upon costume as dictated in your checksheet and
approved at dress rehearsal. You can make, buy, or borrow your costume – please plan on $50 to
$200 for your initial costume set-up. If you choose to borrow costume pieces from Julia or anyone
else, you are responsible for picking up and promptly returning the items as well as repairing any
damage incurred during use or if necessary , replacing lost or irreparable items. Also know that we
use the same base costume, adding a new costuming feature to create a specific look for a given
show. Often we will have a workshop to make these additions and we try to be as thrifty as possible.
You will arrive on time to the performance! If something happens and you will be late you MUST
contact Julia immediately. Repeat offenders will lose their opportunity to perform with the company.
If you have any questions or concerns now or later please do not hesitate to talk to Julia or Emilie.
We’re thrilled to have you as part of the company!
