


Class profile - About 280 MBA students per class (approximately 30% international); with an
average of 5.3 years work experience; age range 23 – 43 years, 73 % are male and 27 % are female
students; 31 % of the students have partners.
Class format - Case studies, team projects, readings, some lectures.
Attendance - Mandatory. If students have more than two unexcused absences, they can receive no
higher than an L in that course.
Participation - Mandatory and factors heavily into the grading scheme.
Grading - Based on class participation, team projects, case analyses, oral reports, business plans,
and papers.
Course load - Three or four courses and 4.5 credits per module. These must include at least 3 MBA
courses each module. It May NOT include more than 1 course outside of the business school during
the semester (over the course of 2 modules).
Examinations. Class projects, case analyses, take-home written exams, term papers, and
presentations.
Courses - The semester is divided into two modules. Nominated exchange students must register for both
module courses prior to July 1 for the fall semester and November 1 for the spring semester. Those attending one
module only have different dates, please confirm with exchange program manager. A general course overview
can be found here: http://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/Programs/MBA/Academics/electives.cfm . Course selections
will be available online at the beginning of June each year. The average course load per Module is 4 courses,
or 6 hours of credit. Current course information can be found on the public course portal, check for MBA
electives ONLY: http://public.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/courseportal/_index.html
Grades - Instructors will explain their grading criteria, other class requirements, and their personal
preferences/expectations in terms of classroom participation, dynamics, etc., on the first day of class or as part of
their syllabus. Class participation is a principal component of all courses in the UNC Kenan-Flagler MBA Program,
although the degree to which it affects individual grades varies from course to course and by instructor to
instructor. As expected, attendance is required and can affect a student's final grade in that class.
Grades in the MBA Program are on a pass/fail system.
H = High Pass
P = Pass
L = Low Pass
F = Fail
Student academic performance is evaluated at the end of each module to determine eligibility status. Academic
ineligibility results if a student earns a failing grade (F) in any course, or if a student earns a low pass (L) in 25%
or more of his or her credit hours during a given module. MBA students attending UNC Kenan-Flagler from other
institutions (Exchange Students) are required to meet the same academic eligibility standards. Exchange
students, failing to meet eligibility requirements during their studies at UNC Kenan-Flagler, will have their home
institution formally notified by the Exchange Program Manager of their academic standing.
The Honor Code - It shall be the responsibility of every student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
to obey and support the enforcement of the Honor Code. The Honor Code prohibits lying, cheating, or stealing
when these actions involve academic processes or university, student, or academic personnel acting in an official
capacity. The Honor Code and the Campus Code, embodying the ideals of academic honesty, integrity, and
responsible citizenship, govern the performance of all academic work and student conduct at the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Acceptance by a student of enrollment in the University requires a commitment to
the principles embodied in these codes.
Career Management Center - The Career Management Center hosts company presentations, career events and
career search skills workshops which interested exchange students are encouraged to attend. Exchange
students may also meet for one-on-one sessions with peer counselors trained to work with students on their job
search strategies, as well as to provide coaching on resumes, cover letters, and interview skills. Exchange
students may be invited to participate in recruiting companies’ interview schedules, and are welcome to apply for
positions posted on the Kenan-Flagler job board. Note: Many career activities are seasonal, and therefore may
not be available during some exchange students’ visits.
Housing - Most MBA full-time students rent apartments in close proximity to the campus and have at least one
roommate to defray expenses. Apartments are generally not furnished; therefore, students must rent furniture for
the short term lease. Exchange students may elect to live on campus in graduate student dormitories or the
student family housing complex. Interested students should submit an application no later than May 1, for the fall
or November 1, for the spring.
