Dear, Sir/ Madam
I am pleased to apply for the Coordinator: Communal Land Support position. In the
following letter, I will describe my interest in this position, and show that I possess the
necessary professional training, career interest, education, and working skills to be a part
of your hardworking organization.
My interests for this position are that it gives me an opportunity to work with issues that
has affected our country from way back. People in communal areas do not understand
their rights and responsibilities to land related matters and hence they are either robbed of
it or mis-use it. This position gives me the opportunity to work closely with the
communities and inform them about land related issues. The position is also a personal
challenge and accomplishment as this will be a stepping stone to my career as a young
graduate with much working experience on land related issues and communities. Finally,
even as a student within the Land Management department at The Polytechnic of
Namibia I have always had a heart for working with communal areas and making them
realize there is more to their land than grazing and ploughing.
My experience makes me a particularly good candidate for the Communal Land Support
Program as I am a Namibian national from Omusati region and hence I understand the
difficulties that we face in communal areas in regard to land related issues. During my
time at the Polytechnic of Namibia, as a student in the land management department I
have throughout my profession gained experience and skills in Community participation,
involvement and empowerment. From the Polytechnic I gathered basic knowledge on
CBNRM in the course Natural Recourse Management. During my studies I gained skills
on map reading, ortho-photo and ariel photo interpretation, natural resource management
and report writing. Later, as part of a five-month Diploma project, I learned how to work
independently and manage my time as I conducted research on “The effects and extent of
off-road driving in the Central Namib Desert” carried out at the Gobabeb Research and
Training Center. My project mainly involved field work as I tracked and followed motor
cars, bicycles and donkey cart tracks. I carried out this project with minimal supervision
as I just handed in reports to my supervisor and lectures at my institution. During my
time at Gobabeb I assisted with the projects that the center managed/ participated in, such
as Biodiversity Monitoring Transect Analysis in Africa (BIOTA), were data was
collected about species in the desert environments and taking down records/ data for the
weather station on a daily basis. For my in-service training I compiled several short
reports on my duties at the Ministry of Lands and Resettlement and the German
Technical Cooperation (GTZ). The reports were on my duties carried out at the two
institutions, these activities included farm assessments, demarcations and monitoring
with the ministry. I also assisted with the filing and updating of the registry of farm offers
at the Ministry. At the GTZ I particularly participated in administration work as I assisted
the Programme Administrator for the Support Land Reform Project. I was later employed
as a Department Assistant within the Polytechnic for duration of six months, were I
assisted the department lecturers with management and stock issues. As part of my
Bachelor of Technology research thesis I was employed at Integrated Environmental
Consultants Namibia (IECN), were I took part in several environmental projects mainly
in regard to Climate Change issues. Last year I was with National Planning Commission
as the Regional Supervisor for the Otjozondjupa region under the 2010/2011 Housing and
Population Census Mapping project were my main focus was on leadership and
managing peers.
The challenges I foresee for this position are more personal than professional, I say so
because the positions key performance areas are very much achievable with the right
guidance and information. On a personal level it will be a challenge for me as this will be
a first time position for me, the workload seems exciting and challenging but because I
am a hard and determined individual I am able to meet targets. On the professional level
a position such as this can be very demanding and for that I would request a large team of
committed individuals that are motivated to getting the job perfectly completed, an
assistant can also be a benefiting addition to the team as most events, meetings and
workshops can be organized through him/her.
In addition to my professional experience and interest for the position, I feel motivated
and excited to work with you. I am a very motivated individual with leadership and
interpersonal and leadership skills. My studies and professional training in land
management, my experience and my interest and desire for improving and supporting the
livelihoods of fellow Namibians with your company make me eminently qualified for this
position.
I can be reached at +264 81 300 3872, will be waiting upon your response.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely yours,
Ms. Linda T Uulenga
