Head Office by the cut-off date advised. All forms are located in the SFD Manual. Updated pages
for the Manual will be distributed via email at the start of Term 1.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership renewals are enclosed with this newsletter. Just a reminder that you must be a financial
member to participate in the Convention. Associate membership must be purchased for any teachers
representing your school at the Convention.
ANNUAL CONVENTION 2014
Please be advised the annual convention is being held at Dance World Studios in South Melbourne from
Thursday 15th – Tuesday 20th January 2015. A registration form and brochure are included with this
newsletter. Also note that it is compulsory to teach the updated Jazz and Tap Levels 1 to 6 from 2015
onwards. (The express session is designed for members who teach Levels 1-5 consistently every year and
only need a fast revision as a refresher).
Based on member responses from our recent survey for an Annual versus Bi-Annual Convention, the
Committee have made the decision to implement a convention every SECOND year. Therefore, it is
recommended that you plan your attendance at the 2015 convention, given that the next convention will be
held in 2017. A provision for members wishing to revise lower levels will be made during the Teaching
Certificate Course on alternate years (the next one is scheduled for 2016) and where possible private
inservice sessions will be posted on our Facebook page for anyone needing extra help.
IMPORTANT – PLEASE NOTE NEW EMAIL ADDRESS
Due to the closure of our current internet/email provider, it has been necessary for Southern Federation of
Dance to make alternative arrangements for these services which requires a change in our email address.
Please note that the email address sfd@pacific.net.au will cease at the end of November and we request
that all members now contact the office via info@dancesfd.asn.au. Can you make sure you correspond
with us via this new email address!
CHOREOGRAPHIC COMPETITION
This day was again another great success. We had fantastic performances by participating students and
the standard of work shown was creative and really interesting. Thank you to all helpers and to the
teachers for encouraging your students to perform. We would also like to acknowledge the wonderful
support of teachers and parents on the day who kindly gave up their time to help run this event.
HAVE YOU CONSIDERED JOINING THE SFD COMMITTEE?
A very important part of the future of Southern Federation of Dance is the commitment and enthusiasm
by members to join the Committee of Management. Are you able to contribute one day a month to attend
a meeting and assist at the various events throughout the year because we would love to see some new
faces! The following points provide you with an idea of what to expect:



The minimum term on the Committee is for a period of 12 months.
You are required to attend regular meetings (approx. 4-6 weeks apart) at pre-arranged destinations
during business hours.
You are expected to volunteer your services to assist with the running of major SFD events like
the Competitions (General and Choreographic), Combined School’s Concert, Teaching Certificate
Exam days, Inservices, Masterclasses, fundraising days etc, when available.
Please consider the valuable input you could make to supporting Southern Federation of Dance through
your opinion and ideas. This is the perfect way to make your voice heard!!! Please contact Head Office
for a nomination form if you would like to take up this opportunity.
SFD MARKETING GUIDELINES
The SFD Committee would like to draw your attention to the recently introduced Marketing Guidelines.
Please familiarise yourself with requirements below:
In an effort to maintain consistent presentation and use of the SFD logo, Southern Federation of
Dance reserves the right to approve any marketing material that contains the SFD logo or endorses
the SFD syllabus.
SFD maintains the right to protect members’ interests by viewing proposed marketing products
that feature the SFD logo and request that anything be forwarded to Head Office prior to being
produced and distributed.
Whilst SFD is happy to provide a copy of the logo for inclusion on school websites etc. the logo
must not be manipulated in its shape, form or colours.
Members must not make statements/reference to being the ‘best dance school’ in the area or
‘preferred dance school’ when accompanying the SFD logo.
2014 TEACHING CERTIFICATE COURSE EXAMS
Participants of the Teaching Certificate Course from 2014, please note that exams have been set for
Sunday 15th March 2015. The cut-off date for registering for this day is Friday 13th February - please
advise Head Office if your student(s) plan on attending.
Also, Level 10 exams will be held on Sunday 22nd March 2015. Again, please advise Head Office if your
student(s) plan on attending.
