COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course introduces students to the study of world affairs, regional studies, and cultural awareness.

them. The Leadership Education Class, which is taught on alternating days will cover life skills, leadership,
followership, and first aid. Students will understand how a military unit operates--to include expectations,
responsibilities, goal setting, teamwork, and dedication. They goal of JROTC is to produce better citizens.
Two years ago this course was only offered to mostly seniors and a few juniors and was subtitled “Senior

REGULAR/RESERVE CADETS
This year’s primary uniform for all JROTC students is the woodland green, camouflaged, battle dress uniform
(BDU). Students are required to wear the uniform to school once a week. Returning students and students
who participate on the Drill Team and Color Guard Team will also wear the Air Force Blue Uniform at least
once a month. A student that wants to take the class, but doesn’t want to wear a uniform or get a haircut
(males), is on “reserve” status and cannot accrue time toward rank or ribbons. Reserve cadets can attend field
trips and extra-curricular events unless a uniform is specifically required. Students who have been in the
AFJROTC program for a year cannot be on “reserve” status.
UNIFORM DAY:
Tuesday is the normal uniform wear day. Academics are 50% of the grade, uniform wear is 30%, and fitness
participation is 20%. Reserve cadets who opt out of wearing the uniform will still wear an Air Force JROTC
T-shirt on uniform day and will still receive a grade for dress and appearance. This year’s standard uniform is
JROTC Battle Dress Uniform (camouflage green). Cadets who are issued the BDUs will be required to
purchase their own black boots and a Desert Ridge Baseball Cap. We have an extremely limited number of
boots for those who fit into the corresponding sizes. The first uniform day is scheduled for 28 Aug 2012, but
if we have not outfitted your student at that point, then they will not be marked down for not wearing a
uniform. Returning cadets, Drill Team members, and Honor Guard members will also be issued the blue, Air
Force JROTC Uniform. Those who don’t wear a uniform on Tuesday can wear it on Wednesday for up to
75% credit or Thursday for up to 50% credit. Late work will be graded on the same sliding scale. Students
who are absent when the work is due may turn it in for full credit on the day that they return. The grade will
be reduced accordingly over the next two days.
