Rosemary Taylor
(Woman who is mainly responsible for large effort on behalf of children affected
by Vietnam war, children without parents and/or family. Rosemary worked from
1968 through April 30, 1975, seeing that over 3,000 children were placed in
families all over the globe. She has written the book Orphans of War, a
comprehensive history of this effort. Currently and through the years since
leaving Vietnam, Rosemary has lived in Bangkok, and is involved in encouraging
and supporting a wide range of services: schools/orphanages/ works with
refugees/you name it--unbelievable energy and consistency in sharing out
resources with many deserving works in Southeast Asia: Thailand, Cambodia
and Vietnam. Rosemary is very interested in keeping up with children with whom
she was involved during the years of the Vietnam war and their families. Her

Sister Emilienne Xuan Mai was the one who accompanied orphans from Ghenh
Rang in 1975. Recently (some months ago) this sister moved to Qui Nhon city .

If people are going to Danang, advise them to see Sr. Vincent. I have just
found that she is still there. She worked with the old Sisters at the beach.
She was there with Sister Angela, caring for the babies n the past. She is
the only one whose name & face I remember. She is the one who would be
mostsignificant in the lives of the children, though she probably doesn't
speakmuch English or correspond by email. She was the one who did a lot of
thework, in the background, & was a sweet person.

Formerly Providence Orphanage, Soc Trang:
Now operated by government, but government does allow sisters, in addition, to
operate House of Love on the property,a boarding school for very poor children
from distances far from Soc Trang.These 120 children visit their homes only at
Tet, Sr. Sylvie and Sr. Marie Marthe said that due to the extreme poverty and
situations of their families, these children are quite like orphans. Handcrafts
made and sold here. The children return to their villages after education.

Sisters of St. Paul de Chartre

St. Paul de Chartres Srs. residence still intact, looks pretty much the same; the
government took over the orphanage which still is an orphanage, with about 60
emotionally and physically handicapped children on the first floor; twenty
abandoned babies on the second floor (all of whom were being placed for
adoption in homes out of the country of Vietnam). Currently they are adding on
another section for the physically/emotionally challanged children on the first
floor. Both Sisters and government director are very welcoming Two child care
workers who worked at the orphanage years ago continue to work with the
babies upstairs.
These sisters worked at the orphanage. Speak Vietnamese. They live by the
orphanage, which is now operated by the government.

Theosophic was a small private orphanage run by adherents of the Theosophic
faith. It was in Gia Dinh, on the way to the airport, somewhere in that
direction,There were 19 children in all who came from there.
The Theosophic religion seemed be tolerant of
all religions.. I seem to remember a picture of Mary & Jesus there,amongst
others.

RE: TO AM 1
The first To Am Nursery was
in a back street in Phu Nhuan district. I would have no idea
where
to find this place now, & I do not have any photos that would
identify it. On the same premises, there was a small factory that
made ampoules for medication.
We did not stay there for long, because of certain problems, but
moved to another location. in Gia Dinh district.
