Materials

How are the materials relevant to the area of interest of IT students and specialists?

The materials are suitable for students of IT who want to improve their knowledge of English. The topics are related to the world of IT, not only general English and this is a strong aspect of the materials.

What would you recommend to improve the interactivity of the tasks?

The navigation of the tasks is easy, and many different interactive activities were employed.

Not so much graphics, image and pictures were used. That would be more attractive for students. But a strong point is that there were many audio recordings.

To what extent are the materials up-to-date?

Materials are quite up to date. But because IT is a field with a lot of innovations and developments, materials can get outdated soon if not regularly checked and updates. This applied only to IT related topics (IT section), but not other learning materials.

Are the activities and tasks motivating enough? If not, please suggest how they can be improved?

The activities seem very interesting to students and motivating. Use of many different activities: forums, multiple choice exercises, reflecting activities and not so much theoretical reading is a strong point of the course and increases motivation.

 Do the materials aim at improving students’ English skills only, or do they also facilitate their learning in the field of IT?

Mostly learning in the field of English. Learning in the field of IT could be for some students, who are new in IT field.

How do the activities and materials facilitate the achievement of the aims presented at the beginning of Weeks 1-4?

All the activities help to achieve these aims.

Do the activities and materials presented promote a communicative approach to learning? Do they facilitate the development of communicative skills?

The materials of Month 1 promote developing of the communication skills of the students. Many forum activities encourage communication among students and develop their communication skills in English. It is important that the tutor moderates and supervises these activities and can correct the mistakes.

Are the ICT-based learning tools - the text-to-speech tool, forum, blog, audio recorder, etc. - chosen to be used alongside a particular activity appropriate for the task objectives? If not, how do you suggest changing it?

Not all the tools were used in Month 1 materials that were tested. Those tools that were used with activities were very well chosen.

Is the time frame allocated for each lesson (1 virtual day) appropriate and sufficient? If not, please give your suggestions.

Some activities needed more time that allocated, some less. It also depends on the abilities of every student. As this is online learning it is important that students can learn at their own pace.

Is the module suitable for independent learning without support form a tutor

(online or face-to-face)?

Some activities are suitable for independent learning. But there are activities which need tutor support, such as forums. Also, some activities give feedback, but not so much explanations, therefore a tutor ’s help would be needed if a student has questions.

Other comments. Please feel free to write any other comments that have not been covered by the replies to the questions above.
