Serving of Food and Beverages
The following acts apply to you whilst you are working with us and you
should familiarize yourself with the points below:
Weights and Measures Act 1963
It is illegal to serve short measure or use unstamped glasses or incorrect
equipment to measure or serve alcohol.
Health & Safety at Work
You have a duty while at work to take reasonable care for the Health &
Safety of yourself and of other persons who may be affected by your acts or
omissions. You also have a duty to cooperate with the Company in complying
with any statutory duty or requirement concerning Health & Safety.
In particular you must:
It is illegal to permit drunkenness or any quarrelsome or riotous conduct to
take place on the premises, or to sell intoxicating liquor to or for the
consumption of a drunken person. Call your supervisor immediately if faced

Never smoke while you are working in food preparation, food

spirit or beer or to extend them with inferior spirits or beers. Never add
water or any other extender to beer or spirits and never mix brands
Know what you must do in case of fire or bomb alert. In the event
of an evacuation, act quickly and quietly using the nearest point
until you are given further instructions. DO NOT STOP FOR YOUR
BELONGINGS.
Trade Descriptions Act 1968
It is illegal to falsely describe food or drink or to overcharge for food and
drink. Check the tariffs to ensure that they are correct and on view at all
times.
Report any accident immediately to the Manager on duty,
however minor.
Cover any cuts with a waterproof detectable blue plaster.
Report safety hazards to a member of the Company’s
Management. Exercise good hygiene practices and be sure not to
risk contamination of food.

You must not use your mobile phone whist on-site.

Report any illness to the Manager on duty.
If you are seen breaking any of the rules found in this handbook you may be
escorted off-site and have your contract with Lingfield Park Racecourse
terminated without being paid.
Security
You are personally responsible for all Company property including money
that you may handle. This remains the property of the Company at all times
along with any uniform or protective clothing that is provided for your use.
The Company reserves the right to require you to reimburse the Company for
any loss.

The till drawer must be kept closed between sales. The till drawer
is not to be opened other than during a genuine transaction or by
an authorized person.
Only authorized persons may take money from the till.
Any tips must be put in to a designated, visible receptacle.
Company procedures and policies will be followed at all times.
Anyone found consuming alcohol or taking non-prescribed drugs
on duty or being suspected of having done so will be disengaged
and escorted off the premises immediately.
Anyone found gambling will be disengaged and escorted off the
premises immediately.

No money is to be put into the till drawer which is not part of the
transaction.

specialised catering team. We are constantly recruiting casual staff to work at
our racecourses. Many of our casual staff have been with us for many years,
others are happy to use the flexibility to come and go as their life style
allows.
The Food Safety Act 1990
It is illegal to serve food, which is not of the nature, substance and quality
demanded by the customer. You must ensure that the food you supply is
clean and safe to eat and that you comply with the rules laid down by
management regarding hygiene and food safety.
We ask you to comply with the Company Rules & Statutory Legislation. Any
breach will lead to your engagement being terminated and may lead to you
being prosecuted. You are also responsible for

This handbook contains all the
information you need for attending
work on the first day.
Please read through carefully.
The Company does not insure your property and accepts no liability for loss
or damage. You are responsible for insuring your own belongings; therefore
we ask you only bring the minimal amount with you to work.
Your Conditions for Work
Although you may have worked for us before, the basis of your engagement
is that of a Casual Worker on a contract for services, and not under a contract
of employment. The Company is under no obligation to offer you
employment.
As a Casual Worker you undertake specific engagements and have the right
to choose, without penalty whether or not to accept the offer of an
engagement, but having accepted, you have a responsibility to come to work.
Your engagement automatically terminates whenever; the function or event
ends as stipulated on your work offer and the Company has no obligation to
offer you any other engagements in the future. Whenever you are offered an
engagement you will be informed whether payment will be on an hourly
basis, paid monthly.
The Company reserves the right to transfer you to suitable alternative work
(which may be of a different type or grade of the work originally offered to
you) at any time and without prior consultation. The casual worker or the
Company may terminate the engagement at any time without giving prior
notice.
You will be informed of the following points when you arrive for work:
Your exact duties and responsibilities.
Your location and where to report for work.
What you meal and break allowance will be and where and when
to take them.
In most cases you will be given written details of the function or event which
you will be expected to follow. The Company reserves the right to vary your
booking to meet changes in business requirements.
Cancellation
The Company will only pay for hours actually worked. If a function or event is
cancelled or the number of workers required is reduced, even at the last
moment when you have already arrived for work, the Company has no
obligation to compensate you. The Manager responsible for the function or
event may make exceptions to this rule under special circumstances.

Payment and Hours
The Company has agreed with the Authorities that income tax and national
insurance will be deducted at source. National Insurance will not be
deducted from any worker who can provide the Company with a National
Insurance Exemption Certificate. Pay date is 1st Friday of every month

18 to 20 £5.93
21+ from £6.20
Unable to attend work
If you are unable to attend work PLEASE call and give where possible at
least 24 hours notice. If you do not show up for work without a valid reason
you may have your contract terminated. We also have a 2 strike policy
whereby failure to turn up on 2 consecutive occasions may result in your

Uniform
You will need to arrive on-site with the following:
Smart plain black trousers or knee length skirt.
Black, classic style, non-slip, closed toe, and closed heel shoes
with black or flesh coloured socks or tights
You will be issued with a shirt when you check in. This must be worn
correctly at all times whilst on duty, and returned at the end of the day.
All long hair must be worn tied back with a conservative clip or tie and all
males must be cleanly shaven. Nail varnish must not be worn. Visible
tattoos unless due to religious beliefs must be covered at all times.
Personal hygiene is of the utmost of importance, we request that all staff
arrive clean and tidy with make up kept to an absolute minimum. All staff
are politely asked to keep perfume/ aftershave to an absolute minimum as
it can, at times, taint food products. With the exception of a plain wedding
ring and a watch NO JEWELLERY may be worn. If you have a facial piercing
you will be asked to cover/remove it for the duration of your shift. Under
no circumstances must Jeans, leggings or pumps be worn.
Check In/Parking
Training
We depend on your skills and knowledge to maintain our high standards and
reputation of excellence. You may be invited to attend formal briefings or
training sessions when the standards required for a function or event will be
explained to you. The briefing will tell you what you need to know about your
job, your customers, the event and the health and safety rules of the site.
PLEASE BE SURE TO ATTEND
Application for Work
Upon registering for work for the first time you will complete a Casual Details
Form giving personal details including bank and National Insurance details.
You will not be paid until you have provided this information. When you
arrive on site you will be given a work card. You must complete this in full get
Parking for all staff is in the Marriott Hotel Car Park. It is approximately a 5
minute walk from there to check in. On your first day please head for
Racecourse Reception and you will be directed to staff check in from there. If
you are working at the Marriott Hotel, please make your way to hotel
reception and you will be introduced to the Supervisor for your shift.
Employment Opportunities
Any vacancies for part time or full time employment are displayed on the
staff notice boards located at the racecourses and can also be found on the
website www.lingfieldpark.co.uk
Working Time Regulations
Under the Working Times Regulations you will be entitled to 20 minutes rest
for each 6 hours of continuous work; this will be allocated at an appropriate
time during your shift. Workers under the age of 18 must not work more
than 8 hours per day and no more than 40 hours per week. They will also be
entitled to 30 minutes rest for each 4 ½ hours of continuous work. It is up to
you to ensure you take a break.
Holiday Accrual
You will accrue up to 4 weeks paid holiday in any given holiday year in line
with the Working Time Regulations 1998. The holiday year runs from Jan to
Dec annually. Please liaise with Julie Baker to request your holiday leave, and
ask any further questions.
Rights to Search
It is recognised, for reasons of security that you must be prepared to be
searched by an authorised person at any time, or on leaving the
establishment. This also applies to your belongings, locker and any
accommodation provided by the Company. If you are found to be in
possession of goods without authorization from your Manager you may be
liable to prosecution.
In the event that you are travelling on any transport supplied or provided by
the Company, we reserve the right to remove you from such transport in the
event that you are under the influence of alcohol or non-prescription drugs
or are abusive to any members of staff or to the provider of transport. Once
you are removed from transport it is your responsibility to make alternative
arrangements.

Satisfying our customers is the main aim of all who work at Lingfield Park.
Please remember the following points:


The customer always come first, never keep a customer waiting.

Always greet your customers with a smile in a cheerful, polite,
courteous and helpful manner.

If a customer has cause to complain listen to the complaint and
always apologize, then try to resolve the complaint. Always report
all queries and complaints to your supervisor immediately.

