Liberal
American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) – protects individual’s civil
rights as guaranteed by the constitution- issues include opposing religious
symbols on public property and decriminalization of drugs such as
marijuana
Greenpeace- protecting the environment by stopping global warming,
stopping whaling, and protecting old growth forests
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)civil rights group that seeks to end racial discrimination and empower black
people through “get out the vote” programs
National Organization for Women (NOW)- feminist organization
promoting reproductive rights (pro choice), stopping rape and domestic
abuse, and equal pay for men and women
People for the American Way- advocacy group for gay, lesbian, bisexual,
and transgender individuals, seeking to get them involved in government and
fighting intolerance while protecting their rights (including to marry)
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)- animal rights
group that protests animal furs as clothing and animal testing
Conservative
National Rifle Association (NRA)- protects 2nd amendment rights through
gun owner rights, firearm safety, and protection of hunting and self-defense
in the U.S.
Club for Growth- supports candidates financially who are in favor of
limited government and lower taxes (“Reagan Republicans”)
Christian Coalition- represents evangelical Christians- issues include
teaching intelligent design in schools and promoting family values
National Right to Life Committee- Largest pro-life (aka anti-abortion)
group in U.S., also working to end euthanasia and assisted suicide
