Find books and more!
1. Searching, finding, getting! (note: for getting need to explain locations)
Scenario 1 (demo): finding things on green marketing
*point out the usual things
*point out there is a subject heading facet for green marketing (refines search)
(we’ll do more on the facets in scenario 8)
Scenario2 (students): how are businesses becoming greener?
*Follow-up: broaden the search with subjects that you find
Scenario 3 (demo): find a copy of the Iliad to read at UW
*grouping editions, when to just go with the representative edition and when to look at other editions
(e.g. maybe want a newer copy or one at UW or one checked in etc.)
Scenario 4 (students): find a copy of On the origin of species to read at UW
Scenario 5 (demo): find the following article
Dennis, Carina. Australian scientists protest at loss of funding board. Nature Vol. 436, no. 7050 (July 28
2005), p. 451.
*need to search the journal title not the article title
*online link direct from results list
*dealing with SFX when more than one provider
*how to get to the volume
Scenario 6 (students): find the following article
White, R.G. and F.D. Sack. Actin Microfilaments in Presumptive Statocytes of Root Caps and Coleoptiles.
American journal of botany Vol. 77, no. 1 (Jan. 1990), p. 17-26.
Scenario 7 (demo): do we have McGill law journal online?
*found in Primo as print, but link on e-journals at top of page
Scenario 8 (demo): too many hits! How can we refine the search? E.g. you need books about Napoleon
*using the facets
Scenario 9 (demo): go back to scenario 1 and talk about actually getting the book
2. Primo Extras: e-shelf, export, alerts, tagging
E-shelf , export and alerts: Go back to a scenario we’ve already done and build on it?
Tagging ideas:
 Use instead of e-shelf for a course or project
 Add subjects words that make sense to you
 Add course codes for shared projects
Your library account: show while in e-shelf
3. What if you don’t find what you are looking for?
