For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of trial by jury: Intolerable Acts
For transporting us beyond seas to be tried for pretended offenses-Intolerable Acts
For abolishing the free system of English laws in a neighboring province….
-shut down the courts and transported Americans to Great Britain to be tried
unfairly
-Great Britain’s takeover off Quebec
For taking away our charters, abolishing our most valuable laws, and altering
fundamentally the forms or our governments-changing colonial laws
For suspending our own legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to
legislate for us in all cases whatsoever-British are pretending to have power: Declarative
Act
He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burned our towns, and destroyed the lives
of our people.- Lexington and Concord and Bunker Hill have already happened, war has
already begun.
He is at this time transporting large armies of foreign mercenaries to complete the works
of death, desolation and tyranny,…..-King is carrying out this war with purchased
mercenaries (Hessians)
He has constrained our fellow citizens taken captive on the high seas, to bear arms
against their country….-Impressment: British captured Americans to fight against
colonists (partial cause of War of 1812)
He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavored to bring on the
inhabitants of our frontiers,…..-King is turning natives against them (this might be an
unfair assertion)

In every stage of these oppressions we have petitioned for redress in the most humblej
terms: our repeated petitions have been answered only by repeated injury……-the
colonists have disagreed many times before and were met with more unfair taxes
What is the king called? Why?
A tyrant, because he has all the power and doesn’t listen to the colonists
What do the colonists believe that they have done?
We’ve protested a number of times-our special relationship is over now
******We therefore, the solemnly publish and declare, that these united colonies are, and
of right ought to be free and independent states*****
What does government do? levy war, conclude peace, contract alliances, establish
commerce
