Minimum Standard:

Students from all regions are free to enter. Schools are requested to ensure that students entering the

Championships are proficient in paddling and maneuvering their craft in the conditions applying to events, can capsize and exit their boat wearing full gear (including spraydecks) and get themselves, their boat and paddle safely to shore without assistance. The convener reserves the right to withdraw from competition any student who is deemed not to meet these minimum requirements. Please note that it is a requirement of the NSW Department of Education and Communities that all competitors wear suitable footwear. Schools are also requested to ensure that all competitors (and other personnel) are abundantly supplied with protection against the cold, wet conditions, which can occur at this time of the year.

Age Divisions: The age attained in the current year is the competitor’s age division.

Costs: $30.00 per competing student regardless of the number of events entered. Junior paddlers (Primary School) may approach the Convener re reduced entry fees if they are entering less than three events). This money MUST be sent to the convener with entry forms and permission notes.

There may also be other charges applicable. Practice costs at the Canoe Centre are the responsibility of individual paddlers.

Course Rules:

General training and practice will only be allowed when supervised by the team manager or personnel appointed by the convener. Unsupervised students will not be permitted on the water at any time. The slalom course will be available for supervised practice, but will be closed from the completion of this until the end of the Slalom competition.

Competent rescuers MUST be in position at all times during any practice/training session. This will be the responsibility of the team managers. Paddlers using the WILDWATER Course MUST be in supervised groups.

The responsibility of ensuring all safety requirements are met rest with the Team Manager or teachers in charge of competing teams. Particular care must be taken to avoid any danger from hypothermia due to immersion in cold water. Failure to comply with safety requirements will result in disqualification of individual paddlers of the school concerned. During competition team managers will be asked to provide safety personnel.

Team Managers and Schools are responsible for the supervision of their students at all times. DUTY OF CARE – only TEACHERS can provide duty of care for students. A parent accompanying THEIR CHILD may take DUTY OF CARE for their child only.

Accommodation:

Accommodation is the responsibility of team managers and paddlers. The Nymbodia Canoe Centre has basic cabin accommodation with communal cooking facilities and unpowered camp sites. The nearest motel to the Canoe centre is the ‘Coaching Station’ at Nymbodia. There are a number of motels and caravan parks in Grafton.

2015 Permission Form and Age Verification

The Championships will involve canoeing activities on Grade 1 and 2 Whitewater and Wildwater Courses. All equipment is the responsibility of the individual entrants and their supervising schools and will be scrutineered prior to the beginning of the competition.

Important Information: In the event of injury, no personal injury insurance cover is provided by the NSW Department of

Education and Communities for students in relation to school sporting activities, physical education lessons or any other school activity. The Department’s public liability cover is limited to breaches by the department in its duty of care to students that result in claims for compensation.

Parents and caregivers are advised to assess the level and extent of their child’s involvement in the sport program offered by the school, school sport zone, association and state school sport associations when deciding whether additional insurance cover is required. Personal accident insurance cover is available through normal retail insurance outlets.

Parents who have private ambulance cover need to check whether that cover extends to interstate travel and make additional arrangements as considered appropriate.

The NSW Supplementary Sporting Injury Benefits Scheme, funded by the NSW Government, provides limited cover for serious injury resulting in the permanent loss of a prescribed faculty or the use of some prescribed part of the body.

The Supplementary Scheme does not cover medical expenses or dental costs .Further information can be obtained from www.sportinginjuries.com.au
