Download the entire EPEL 7 repository
by jwroysdon » 2014/12/04 23:30:57
Does anyone know of a way to download and burn to the entire EPEL 7 library to a DVD? Or maybe several
DVD's if it's too big (I really have no idea how large it is)?
I'm not just talking about setting up the repository on your system. I'm talking about downloading the
ENTIRE EPEL repository so that it can be used in an offline environment.

You can most likely download the entire repository using reposync.
Install the yum-utils package if you don't have reposync on your system.
Executed from my home folder ...
Code: Select all
reposync --repoid=elrepo --download_path=elrepo
Gives me a path of /home/username/elrepo/elrepo populated with 65 packages.
Powered by Fedora and CentOS

I can see your helpful suggestion causing confusion . . .
ELRepo (i.e. The ELRepo Project) is not EPEL (i.e. Fedora's Extra Package for Enterprise Linux).

As for sizes, see http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/DIRECTORY_SIZES.txt
Code: Select all
113G
27G
14G
/srv/pub/epel/
/srv/pub/epel/7
/srv/pub/epel/7/x86_64
I'd use rsync with a command line like rsync -vtr --progress --exclude debug/
rsync://mirror.pnl.gov/epel/7/x86_64/ epel

Dang. Sorry about that. Mental error. Of course it should be

No problem and no harm done. I just didn't want to leave your example showing the wrong repository
without some comment . . .

Thank you for this answer. I will try this from home. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a CentOS
machine with internet here at work... quite irritating really. Totally kills my productivity.
I don't suppose there is a similar program for Windows 7 (that doesn't require admin rights, i.e. a portable
app). I know... I know... but that's what I have to work with at my place of work.
