PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The School of Pharmacy at Virginia Commonwealth University is located on the
University's Medical College of Virginia campus in Richmond. Since its inception
in 1898, the School of Pharmacy has been a leader in pharmaceutical education
and research. The VCU School of Pharmacy continually strives to promote
excellence in all of its' programs.
Our mission is to provide professional, graduate, and postgraduate education,
conduct pharmaceutical and biomedical research, and deliver pharmaceutical care
and public service. We are the only school of pharmacy to offer a complete
spectrum of academic programs in pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
These programs include the PharmD, and the M.S. and Ph.D. in the
pharmaceutical sciences.
The professional degree program at the School is the Doctor of Pharmacy
(Pharm.D.) which leads to a career as a pharmacist. Further academic options can
be sought through the School's graduate program in pharmaceutical sciences. The
graduate program leads to an M.S., a Ph.D., and postdoctoral study. Areas of
concentration include Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacotherapy,
Pharmacy Administration and Pharmacology and Toxicology. The professional
degree can be combined with the M.S. or Ph.D. in any of the above areas of
concentration. Additionally, the professional degree can be combined with an
MBA degree, in conjunction with the VCU School of Business or a MPH degree,
in conjunction with the VCU School of Public Health.
