Hope everyone had a great Veterans Day! Our Post evidently had the
best Veterans Day ever, the Post was packed, with food, music, great
friends and an enjoyable time was had by all. We were overwhelmed by
a donation from a Patron of $500 our Legion Program. What a help this
will be. THANK YOU.
On another note, we lost a dear friend this month, Les Smith, who will
be missed greatly. So Veterans Day was most appreciated for a variety
of reasons.
A great big thank you to all the members who showed up for "CleanUp", a lot was accomplished and I am most grateful. At least
12 or 13 men came forth and one woman, so we could have done more
if more people would help out, maybe next time.
The Auxiliary had a great turn-out for their Sock Hop, and actually had
to turn people away, so it was a huge success. Also the Italian Fest,
and Meat Raffle had a good turn-out, so things have really been busy at
our Post.
Just a reminder that the Early Bird Dinner is Sunday, December 4th,
so don't forget to come in and sign up. Also on Thanksgiving Day we
have limited hours starting at 5:00 PM 'till ????, and there is NO FISH
FRY on Friday, November 25th.
So, have a Blessed Thanksgiving Day, enjoy with your family and
friends, and when you can, please come in to the Post and enjoy yourselves. Happy Holiday!

NOTE THEY ARE ON TUESDAYS NOW. The next meeting will
be November 22th at 7:30.
I would also like to extend my thanks to all of the Sons who have
helped with our fund raisers. There seems to always be the same few
members who help. More of the Sons need to pitch in too. Very
special thanks to all of the extra people who help. If more members
helped we would not have rely on our wives and friends to pull the
weight.
I’m looking forward to seeing you around at the post and our meetings.
Thank you,

Color Guard News............ It is
with much sadness that I start
this article with the notification
of the passing of Les
Smith. Les was not only a very active and dedicated member
of the Color Guard but was an individual that could be depended on to help in any way. He was also our first official
driver. Les was not only very well liked but was my extremely
VERY good friend. I am proud to say that there was a very
good representation from the Color Guard at the calling hours
and also for his funeral. He will not only be missed but will
always be remembered. At our last meeting we welcomed in
to our ranks, Ed Squires......WELCOME ED. On November
30th the Color Guard will be working the Bingo kitchen. Hope
to see a good turnout. The next Color Guard meeting will be
held on Sunday, December 11th at 5:00 PM. This will be our
annual Christmas get together with everyone bringing a dish
to pass. If anyone is interested in joining this would be a
good meeting to attend.......................

HO HO HO MERRY
CHRISTMAS!!!!
But first – Happy Thanksgiving!!
Another busy month has passed us buy. What a wonderful turnout at this years Sock-Hop. We actually had
to turn people away at the door. A HUGE thank you to
Linda Jackson and all the Auxiliary, Legion & Son‘s
members that helped us put this together to make this
such a success.
Then came Veteran‘s Day. The Stone Soup turned
out well and the Memory Tree was lit. AGAIN – Thank
you to all who helped and were there on Veteran‘s
Day.
Now – December is upon us and we have a lot going
on too! December 3rd is Christmas Caroling at the
VA. We will be meeting at the Legion at 12:00 to go as
a group. Please bring a snack to pass for after Caroling for our little holiday gathering.
December 4th is the Early Bird Dinner which starts at
6:00 that evening. If your dues were paid prior to Veteran‘s Day, you are eligible for a free dinner. Any
guest will be a $10
charge.
Then December 6th is the Auxiliary Christmas get
together. There is a sign-up list on the Board in the
hallway to sign up and indicate what type of dish you
may be bringing to pass. Also, if you wish to participate in our gift exchange, the limit for a gift is $10. I
look forward to seeing many of you that evening to
just sit back and enjoy conversation and good
food. December 11th will be the Children‘s Christmas
party. Sign-ups for that will be available soon at the
Legion.
I think that‘s about it at this point. If I have forgotten anything or anyone, I apologize.
I can‘t thank you all enough for your support this
year so far and look forward to the next few
Months. Until then – See ya round the post!!

President, Cicero Legion Auxiliary
Eddie says to say Hello to everyone
Legion Member Gene Pierson
shares his collection of Armaments
My name is Gene Pierson. I have been a member of Cicero American Legion for 26 years. When I
graduated from North Syracuse High School in 1964 I joined the Army. I was always interested in
the military when I was growing up. My Father and 4 uncles were in the Army during World War II.
The first items I bought (when I was a teenager) that I display in my collection were a M1 Carbine
Bayonet and a Medical Corpsman Knife (which I thought was a Bolo Machete). They were purchased through the mail from a company, called P&S Sales in Oklahoma, back in the late fifties. In
1998 I bought my first Military Bolt
Bolt--Action Rifle at the Syracuse Gun Show at the Fair Grounds. It
was a M1903A3 Springfield Rifle made by Remington Arms during WWII. At that point I had no intention of developing a military display, I just wanted it. My next purchase was a M1 Carbine in
1999, also at the gun show at the fairgrounds.
It was several years before I bought another rifle. In 2006 I bought a M1903 Springfield Rifle made
by Rock Island Arsenal just after World War II. The Rifle had obviously been used during WWII because it had been re
re--barreled in 1944. At that point I started thinking about a Military Display at the
Post using the Legion‘s M1 Garand(s) Rifles with my own and the appropriate web gear and bayonets to with the rifles. I added some small items such as patches, dog tags, WWII I.D. and papers
belonging to my Father; also c
c--rations, MRE‘s and some miscellaneous items from my years in the
Army National Guard. George Wickert, a 30
year member of the Post, and a Air Force
Retiree, added his Air Force Memorabilia to
the display.
After having a small display at the Post on
Veterans Day for several years, Mark Adams
asked me if I would be interested in taking it
to the NY State Fair. This got me thinking
about how I could enhance my display. I decided to add examples of Foreign Bolt
Bolt-Action Rifles and Bayonets from World War I
and II with a display rack. In 2010 I purchased five rifles with bayonets for the display. I have one type from each of the principle combatants in World War II; a German
Mauser, British Enfield, Italian Carcano Carbine, Soviet Mosin
Mosin--Nagant and a Japanese
Ariska.
The German Mauser cam from Mitchel‘s Mauser‘s in California. The Soviet Mosin
Mosin--Nagant was purchased at Gander Mountain in Cicero. The Italian Carbine came from the Syracuse Gun Show. The
British Enfield No. 4 MK1 was bought online from GunBroker.com. The Japanese Ariska Type 99
with Bayonet came from a member of the Rod & Gun Club I belong to. Other Bayonets and Knives
came from the Militaria Show held twice a year at the Mattydale VFW or online from e
e-bay. Much of the Web Gear and Field Equipment has come from flea markets or
online. At the end of 2010 I purchased my own M1 Garand from gungroker.com.
This year, 2011, I added Hand Grenades from Herb Phillipson‘s in Liverpool and Rifle
Grenades w/Launcher from gunparts.com, VFW Militaria Show and on line, along with
additional equipment added to the current display. I also have purchased 3 racks for
displaying the equipment and made 3 more.
It has been a lot of fun putting it together and I hope all our members get a chance to
see it. When we set up the display at the Post, if anyone has something different they
would like to display with us, feel free to bring it in for our member‘s enjoyment.
