NYU Steinhardt's Department of Media, Culture, and Communication is pleased
to announce postdoctoral Research Fellowship/Scientist openings for recent
recipients of a Ph.D. or equivalent degree (e.g., J.D. or J.S.D.). Funded by
government grants, fellows would work with Professor Helen Nissenbaum
(Principal Investigator) on grant-related research projects. Ideal
candidates will have demonstrated expertise in social, political, ethical,
or legal studies relating to computing, digital media, and information
systems and enjoy working collaboratively. A focus on privacy and security
is preferred, particularly as applied to health/medical information.
Fellows will pursue their own research as well as project-defined research,
and will have opportunities to work with a diverse community of
collaborators at NYU and beyond. Fellows will also assist with
project-related administration and events. These one-year positions may be
renewable for a second year, and teaching in the department may be an
option, depending on availability and interest.
Applicants from a wide range of disciplines, including information science,
STS, media studies, computer science and engineering, law, or traditional
humanities and social sciences are encouraged to apply. Training in
philosophical, policy/political, legal, media, theoretical or technical
analysis and familiarity with values-in-design will be useful for project
needs.
