MegaDrill of Louisiana Drops Anchor in Cameron Parish
Cameron, LA – The Cameron skyline changed on February
27, 2014 when the 150 foot tall drilling rig Monarch, owned by
MegaDrill of Lafayette, was maneuvered into the Cameron
Loop. MegaDrill worked with the Cameron Parish Sherriff's
Department, Coast Guard, West Cameron Port, Lake Charles
Pilots, and the Safety Council as the plans were finalized.
The rig will remain in Cameron for up to six months as it is
cleaned, sandblasted, painted, and refurbished before leaving
for dry-dock. Another rig will then be brought into port to
take its place.
MegaDrill has worked with the West Cameron Port and
Cameron CLEAR Center Director, Stephen Broussard, to
employ local crane operators and service providers to assist in
the refurbishment project. MegaDrill projects that they will
employ 100 people over the next year.

Through the past twelve project cycles,
the Authority is helping to create and

Spring 2014
Over 90 people representing 56 small businesses
attended the event to learn how to register with various LNG companies and state agencies to provide
services as the LNG industry continues its historic
expansion in SW Louisiana.
Jason French, Director of Public Affairs with Cheniere,
made a brief presentation about how Cheniere plans to
hire locally for the O&M (Operations & Maintenance)
phase of Cheniere’s Sabine Pass LNG Facility.
RB Smith of Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance opens the event.
Shanna Sellers with the Safety Council of SW Louisiana
made a presentation about its Pre-Qualification Form
and Vendor Vet program. The Vendor Vet program
was developed in conjunction with SWLA and the GO
Group as a resource that will allow LNG industries to
offer business opportunities to local service companies
and vendors.
