Professorial Pay Scale
The University of Exeter Professorial pay
bands and pay scale were introduced at
the beginning of the 2015/16 University year.
See the University's Professorial Pay
webpages for more information.
Note 1 - Grade H
From 1 August 2007
Points 55 & 56 added to Grade H and point 47
deleted (from this grade).
Note 2 - Grades A and B
From 1 January 2014
Grade A deleted;
Grade B becomes points 3 to 6;
Point 3 becomes higher of Living Wage or
JNCHES point 3;
From Nov 2015 point 3 is based on Living
Wage and as the rate is higher than points 4
and 5 these have been increased to match.
Alternating Shift Allowance is 11% of JNCHES
point 3 (£14,953) (ie not living wage)
Progression (grades B to H)
Subject to satisfactory performance, and
subject to a minimum of six months' service in
the grade, increments are payable on 1 August
each year until the top normal progression
point of the grade is reached. Progression into
and through the contribution points is subject
to performance in the role.
(Different arrangements apply to E&R
Lecturers on the Professional Development
Programme.)
Apprentices
Pay arrangements are as follows (based on an
apprenticeship training towards a grade C
position):
First year (ie from date of appointment to 31
July) = 75% of point 6
Second year (ie 1 August to 31 July) = 75% of
point 7
Third year (ie 1 August to 31 July) = 75% of
point 8
Should an apprentice subsequently apply and
be appointed to a grade C position on
completion of the training programme, the first
point of C will be applied at 100%.
For Grade B apprentices, JNCHES point 3
(£14,953) will be used.
