We will be learning about a number of individuals throughout modern history around the world who
have been declared freedom fighters by some and terrorists by others.
You are to pick one individual from below to research and present to the class the arguments as to
why they are considered a terrorist and why they are considered a freedom fighter. Then you are to
convince the audience as to which you think is the correct view of that person. Each person may
only be picked once.

Each of these people tried to change something in their country using a specific method,
and their methods are controversial. What is the best way to bring about change of a
government? The following are parts you need to include in your presentation, which
should be in a PowerPoint or Prezi format:
-provide some details about WHO your person is, WHERE they live, and WHAT
their background is
-clearly explain WHAT they were trying to change
-clearly explain HOW they were trying to change it, meaning what methods they
used
-specifically EXPLAIN how and why some say they are a terrorist or dangerous
person
-specifically EXPLAIN how and why some say they are a freedom fighter or
person fighting for their rights
You also need to provide as many visuals as possible, including:
-a map of the world with your country highlighted on it
-a map of your country in the region of the world it’s in
-a picture of your person
-a political cartoon about the issue or country your person is fighting
for
The following are the required criteria for your presentation:
- a 5 minute oral presentation in front of the
class
*you should know the material – do NOT read straight
from your notes during your presentation
*eye-contact and volume are key components
- a PowerPoint or Prezi presentation
*needs to have numerous visuals, including maps showing
where your ethnic group lives, pictures, etc.
*needs to be audience-friendly with custom animation
The following can be included for EXTRA CREDIT:
a YouTube clip from a reputable source that helps the
class better understand your person
a song from or about your person
a short clip from a film about your person or their struggle
